Assistant District Attorney, the witnesses in this case, as well as the
nature and impact of the extrajudicial statements made by Defendant in
the D.C. Circuit case (which resulted in the D.C. Circuit issuing an
order restricting his speech), and given that the eve of trial is upon
us, it is without question that the imminency of the risk of harm is now
paramount...” -- Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of New York Juan Merchan issuing a gag order (pdf) on the Malignant Loser for his inflammatory and dangerous blathering concerning his hush money for porn stars case in Manhattan. This should be the template for every trial in which the deranged, lawless Malignant Loser is a defendant. consequences and the outcome in the new case, expected by early summer,
could affect races for Congress and the White House.

The practical consequences of a ruling for abortion opponents would
be dramatic, possibly halting the delivery of mifepristone through the

it can be used from 10 to seven weeks and ending increasingly popular
telehealth visits at which the drug can be prescribed.

President Joe Biden’s administration and drug manufacturers warn that

a Trump nominee in Texas, which would have revoked the drug’s approval
entirely. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals left intact the FDA’s
initial approval of mifepristone. But it would reverse changes
regulators made in 2016 and 2021 that eased some conditions for
administering the drug.

The Supreme Court put the appeals court’s
modified ruling on hold, then agreed to hear the case, though Justices
Samuel Alito, the author of the decision overturning Roe, and Clarence
Thomas would have allowed some restrictions to take effect while the
case proceeded.

The extremist forced- birthers holding sway over the Republican/ MAGAt cult and its lifetime- appointment judges around the country aren't stopping here. They'll keep gnawing away at women's reproductive freedoms -- including contraception! -- unless and until the Republican Supreme Court is unpacked and the rights and freedoms that are being taken away by these goons are restored. For that to happen, we need to have a Democrat in the White House and a Democratic- majority Senate. For however long it takes, we need to be as resolute and strategic as the forced- birthers have been for the last half century.

(Image: Anna Moneymaker / Getty Images)

W. No one expects law enforcement to show up and padlock his buildings, but his other assets are vulnerable, especially bank accounts and personal property. The Washington Post looked at five scenarios this morning (excerpts):

Nothing happens immediately

The appeals court generally issues rulings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so there is very little chance it will act by Monday on Trump’s request to waive the bond requirement. [snip]

But there are reasons for her to wait. Legal experts say Trump has a chance of getting some type of relief from the appeals court. If James begins moving on his assets before the court rules, she may have to backtrack afterward. [snip]

Letitia James moves to enforce

James has said she intends to take Trump’s assets if he fails to pay. “If he does not have funds to pay off the judgment, then we will seek judgment enforcement mechanisms in court, and we will ask the judge to seize his assets,” she told ABC News last month. In the interview, James mentioned Trump’s 40 Wall Street office building by name.

Experts say James would probably start with New York properties, partly because the LLCs that own two of them — 40 Wall Street and his Seven Springs estate in Westchester County — are defendants in the fraud case. James’s office already filed Engoron’s judgment with a court in Westchester County, a first step toward seizing the Seven Springs property, as CNN first reported. [snip]

Trump finds the money

The easiest way out of this predicament for Trump is to get a lifeline from the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. Trump’s attorneys have asked that court to reduce, delay or waive the bond requirement. The court could say that Trump does not need to post a bond at all unless until his appeal is over and he loses, or the panel could allow him to post a smaller bond. [snip]

The appeals court steps in

The easiest way out of this predicament for Trump is to get a lifeline from the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. Trump wouldn’t escape his debt to the court — and in fact interest would still continue to accrue — but the clock would stop ticking on his need to immediately put up a bond. New York would have to get in line with other creditors and ask a bankruptcy judge to get paid.

Filing for bankruptcy could come at a political cost for a candidate who has marketed himself as a savvy businessman."

AG James isn't fooling around, and she'll be strategic in whatever action she takes. Be assured that the Malignant Loser will try to milk whatever sympathy he can from his devoted cult and the gullible, both sides media. As for us and tens of millions more, finally bringing the Malignant Loser to justice by beginning to strip this monster of his things is a very good day.

UPDATE: This --

A New York appellate court has ruled that former President Donald Trump can post a lower bond to cover his $464 million civil fraud judgment.

The Appellate Division, First Department said Trump can post a bond "in the amount of $175 million" to cover the judgment.

Trump's attorneys had argued obtaining a bond for the full amount of $464 million was a "practical impossibility."

The ruling comes as Trump

Johnson will undoubtedly face a motion to end his short term as Speaker led by braying ass seditionist Marjorie Traitor Greene and her Putin caucus; a bargain to receive enough Democratic votes to keep him as Speaker in exchange for this aid, and other Democratic priorities, is likely in the works.

The bad:

The Supreme Court will again wade into the fractious issue of abortion this week when it hears arguments over a medication used in the most common way to end a pregnancy,

the medication mifepristone, which was used in nearly two-thirds of all
abortions in the United States last year.

That decision to reverse
Roe had immediate political consequences, with Democrats making the
case that the court had taken away a right that women held for half a
century and winning elections as a result. Even conservative-leaning
states like Kansas and Ohio voted against abortion restrictions. If the
court were to uphold restrictions on medication abortions it could roil
the election landscape in races for Congress and the presidency.

By rolling back Food and Drug Administration changes to the use of
mifepristone, the ruling would cut off access to the drug through the
mail and impose other restrictions, even in states where abortion
remains legal. The restrictions would shorten the time when mifepristone
can be used in pregnancy, to seven weeks from 10 currently...

The Pandora's box opened by the Republican Supreme Court when it overturned Roe v. that lies about 30 million light-years away. Despite there not being
many observations of this relatively faint galaxy, it has the
distinction of having a descriptive soubriquet: the Spider Galaxy.
Perhaps the distorted galactic arms with their glowing, star-forming
tips bring to mind the clawed legs of an arachnid. Somewhat confusingly,
there is another, very similarly nicknamed but otherwise entirely
distinct, galaxy known as the Spiderweb Galaxy. This galaxy has also
been more extensively imaged (notably by Hubble), despite the fact that it lies about 300 times further from Earth than the Spider Galaxy does.

Fortunately, correct galaxy identification does not depend on casual
given names. Rather, known galaxies are recorded in at least one
catalogue — and often in several — such as the Uppsala General Catalogue
of Galaxies, which gives the Spider Galaxy its more formal title of UGC
5829. This same galaxy also has several different designations in
various other catalogues: it is, for example, LEDA 31923 in the
Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database; MCG+06-24-006 in the Morphological
Catalogue of Galaxies; and SDSS J104242.78+342657.3 in the Sloan Digital
Sky Survey Catalogue. The Spiderweb Galaxy isn’t recorded in all of the
same catalogues — each is necessarily limited in scope — but it is
included in the LEDA catalogue as LEDA 2826829. It is evidently simpler
to not conflate the dull but distinct names LEDA 31923 and LEDA 2826829,
than the fun but easily confused Spider and Spiderweb!

[Image Description: An irregular galaxy, consisting of a
large central body of dull-coloured stars, with distorted arms around
it. The arms are spotted with brightly glowing pink areas where stars
are forming, and bluish gas that is brighter than the galactic core. Two
large arms flank the left and right of the body, and smaller streams of
stars emerge from the top. Other, distant, galaxies can be seen on the
edges of the image.]

Credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA, R. Tully, M. Messa

W. and the threat of more destruction from war criminal Putin, we need to continue
to focus our efforts on helping the suffering people of Ukraine as much
as we
can, to help them and democracy survive and thrive. (Getting critical
military aid would also be helpful, but that's another story.) Via The Philadelphia Inquirer, this is a (partial) list of verified charities that are helping the people of Ukraine, which we like to post regularly. Please consider giving:

World Central Kitchen

What they do: They have millions of meals and have
teams active in hundreds of cities and towns in Ukraine. They have also built
a logistics network of delivery vans, trucks, trains, and warehouses
throughout the country, delivering millions of pounds of food to
families—sometimes in areas completely cut off due to fighting and near
the Russian border.

How you can help: There are many ways to donate to WCK; see their website. The death toll from the assault by ISIS-K terrorists stands at 133 with many more injured, despite warning from the U.S. weeks ago that a terrorist attack was likely on public venues like concert halls and warning U.S. citizens to stay away. Now, the Russian thug is desperate to link the ISIS-K attack to Ukraine, not wanting to explain to Russians how this attack was a probable outgrowth of decades of Russian suppression of its Muslim minority, and Russia's military support of the brutal Assad regime in its war against Islamic militants in Syria for the past decade. CNN reports on the implications for Putin of the devastating attack:

"The four men suspected of carrying out the attack were arrested near Russia’s border with Ukraine, Russian authorities said. Putin said they had planned to cross into Ukraine – Kyiv has denied any link with the attack and warned Russia could use it as an excuse to escalate its invasion.

Amid fears of more attacks, security has been tightened at key transport hubs across Russia. Public concerts and sporting events have been postponed.

This is hardly the stability and security for which so many Russians voted for President Putin.

For years, the Kremlin strongman has been cast as a leader able to guarantee order in this vast, turbulent country.

But Russia today seems more insecure and volatile than at any point in Putin’s 24 years in power." (our emphasis)

Now, Putin is dishonestly diverting attention to Ukraine as a conspirator despite ISIS-K's taking responsibility for the attack, partly because he wants to stoke anger against Ukraine and partly because he doesn't want to acknowledge Russia's suppression of Muslims and his brutality in Syria as what likely provoked the attack. It's doubly embarrassing for Putin that he and his intelligence services disregarded intelligence warnings from Western intelligence agencies which proved to be accurate. Unfortunately, with a state-controlled media, most Russians will never know how badly the Kremlin performed.

BONUS: To the tinfoil hat QAnon/ MAGAt conspiracists, there are other culprits right under our noses. His works -- "Voyages extraordinaires" as they were called -- were the forerunner of most modern science fiction, and included such popular titles as "Five Weeks in a Balloon" (1863), "Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), and "Around the World in Eighty Days" (1872). He wove in astronomy, biology, physics and other scientific information known in his day and applied it in his fantastical voyages. Only Agatha Christie's works reportedly have been translated more. Although French literary society at the time though his work to be for children and unworthy of membership in the Académie Française, Verne was a true pioneer whose work was the inspiration for countless writers who followed him, including H.G.
