Skeets Of The Day

The Epstein Files coverup / Bondi folds --

After avoiding us for weeks, it only took 45 minutes for Pam Bondi to schedule her hearing in front of our Committee, once we filed contempt charges. She's going to face some tough questions. We're fighting for survivors, and we're not going to stop until we get justice.

Racist SCOTUS' gutting the Voting Rights Act --

Just a reminder that the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was called, "An act to enforce the fifteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States."

Things suck. But, the second civil rights movement is going to be fought with a much larger porportion of the population in support of it, and with a citizenry that thinks nostalgically about the relative prosperity and strength of the United States during its era as a multicultural democracy.

... and a response --

NEWS --> Dem can redraw anywhere from 10 to 22 additional House seats for the party in time for the 2028 elections if they aggressively redistrict in 7 key states, a new Fair Fight Action analysis finds. This would neutralize GOP's post-SCOTUS advantage. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/2098...

Summarizing Trump's white nationalist, racist right --

Historians will note this is exactly what millions of Americans wanted, no matter the consequences: to retaliate against the country for electing a Black President by putting a huge racist in the White House who would constantly refer to every Black person he doesn't like as "low IQ."

Weekend Music Twofer

Happy 87th Birthday to Judy Collins today, "Judy blue eyes" of song and legend.  The honey-voice singer /songwriter is probably best known for her cover of friend Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," which resulted in her first Grammy for Best Folk Performance.  Today, we're honoring her career with two more of her best known songs:  the Steven Sondheim composition, "Send in the Clowns" (1975) -- appropriate for the Trump era -- and "Someday Soon" (written by Ian and Sylvia's Ian Tyson), from her 1968 album, "Who Knows Where the Time Goes."  Hope you enjoy.

Squeaker Johnson Cursed At By His Own Caucus

Smarmy, smug House Squeaker Mike "The Weasel" Johnson has had a bad week, and by bad we mean disastrous. Long known for his speaking out of both sides of his mouth, depending on who's listening, Johnson has infuriated members of his caucus by guiding legislation through that various members say he claimed he would not.  From Politico:

"Republicans say Johnson’s habit of making last-minute, often contradictory promises to keep his tiny majority functioning is starting to catch up with him. Frustrations over his leadership, they say, are at an all-time high.

'I think this guy has divided us with a smile,' said Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio), a longtime Johnson skeptic who has grown more vocal with his criticism and now says 'without question' he will vote against keeping Johnson as top GOP leader in the next Congress.

This week’s chaos came to a head late Wednesday, with multiple members of key Republican factions yelling and swearing at Johnson on the House floor and in closed-door meetings." (our emphasis)

It's without question that underlying this anger with the Squeaker is the MAGAt caucus' knowledge that they're in for a colossal drubbing in November with perhaps 40 seats flipping to Dems, despite their cynical and desperate attempts to rig the voting through gerrymandering and onerous voter suppression laws.  More:

"This week’s floor chaos was just the latest example of Johnson leading crisis by crisis, ultimately pulling off GOP priorities but leaving a trail of disgruntled members and staffers in his wake, according to more than a dozen Republicans interviewed for this story.

It all comes as rank-and-file lawmakers grow increasingly worried about their ability to govern over the coming months and retain their majority in November — and amid quiet conversations about who else might be capable of leading the House GOP." (our emphasis)

Squeaker Johnson is putting a happy, if not honest, face on his problems, blaming "fake news" for reporting the anger at his maneuvering, according to the article.  Come November, when Johnson's fate is clearer, it's doubtful that his caucus will include him in their leadership, given his broken promises.
