The budget deal reached in the House this past week has led some to express hope that parts of the Obama Administration agenda (notably immigration reform) will be taken up next year. Count us as skeptical. Betraying its nativist base on an issue of the magnitude of immigration reform is likely a barrier too high to surmount for what passes as the Republican "leadership."
