President Obama laying a wreath today at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park
to pay tribute to the estimated 140,000 people who died as a result of the world's first atomic bombing, on August 6, 1945. Obama, who is the first sitting President to visit Hiroshima, is in Japan attending the G-7 meeting. In the lobby of the Peace Museum, the President signed the guest book with this inscription:
We have known the agony of war. Let us now find the courage, together, to spread peace, and pursue a world without nuclear weapons.
