Public Opposes Trump's Bogus "Emergency" [UPDATED]
On the day the Senate takes up a vote to reject corrupt demagogue Donald "Rump" Trump's "emergency declaration" to build his manhood wall on the southern border that Mexico was going to pay for, a new Politico / Morning Consult poll shows that a majority of Americans reject Rump's unconstitutional end-run. Fifty-two percent oppose the bogus "emergency declaration", while only 38% support it. Last month, 51% opposed the declaration, showing an erosion of support.
While the responses from Dems (83% oppose) and Rethugs (80% support) are expected, the tally for Independent voters signals trouble for Rump: by nearly 2-to-1, Independents oppose the bogus declaration, 57% - 30%.
Whether more than just a handful of Rethug Senators buck Rump's declaration remains to be seen. They've not been pillars of courage. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: The Senate rejected Rump's bogus "emergency declaration" with a vote of 59 - 41 with 12 Rethuglicans joining all Dems in voting no. (North Carolina Sen. Thom "Tilly" Tillis voted to support Rump, despite writing a critical editorial in the Washington Post just days ago. He obviously saw the measure would be defeated by a good margin, and decided to defect to Rump's side since his vote wouldn't be decisive. Coward.)
Yeah, the Twelve crossover Republicans are in safe seats and they can pretend to cast votes of integrity.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been great to get a veto-proof majority, but Trump is going to do it and then we fight back.
