Epstein - Russian Intel Link Being Investigated

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced he's setting up an investigation of the multiple references to friend of the Malignant Fascist, Russian war criminal Vladimir Putin, in the Epstein-Trump files.  There have been occasional theories that the late underage female sex trafficker was financed by Russia through money laundering, and that Epstein videotaped his wealthy and influential "clients" having sex with underage girls at different locations.  From The Times:

"Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, earlier this week said he has was setting up a team to examine the numerous mentions of Putin and other Russians in the Epstein files.

He said it was likely that the 'unprecedented paedophilia scandal was co-organised by Russian intelligence services' to harm the Polish state. 'This can only mean that they also possess compromising materials against many leaders still active today,' he said.

There are more than 1,000 mentions of Putin and almost 10,000 references to Moscow, including suggestions of potential meetings with the Russian leader in the files. However, there is no evidence that they met in person. [snip]

This comes as Tusk said: 'More and more leads, more and more information, and more and more commentary in the global press all relate to the suspicion that this unprecedented paedophilia scandal was co-organised by Russian intelligence services.

'I don’t need to tell you how serious the increasingly likely possibility that Russian intelligence services co-organised this operation is for the security of the Polish state. This can only mean that they also possess compromising materials against many leaders still active today.'" (our emphasis)

This comes across as a classic KGB / FSI "honeytrap" operated by Epstein and financed by the Kremlin, which now conceivably has hundreds, if not thousands, of videos and documentation of political, business, cultural and other Western elites for extortion / kompromat purposes, including perhaps the Malignant Fascist and others in his regime.

If the Malignant Fascist and his Director of National Intelligence Tulsi "Our Friend Tulsi" Gabbard weren't alleged stooges for Russia, they'd be spearheading a U.S. investigation.  Instead, Gabbard is stalling serious whistleblower complaints, and doing knock-off cosplays of ICE Barbie at the Fulton County, GA, board of elections to please the MF and feed his lying, narcissistic nonsense about the 2020 election being stolen from him. Maybe "Our Friend Tulsi" will find the "11,780 votes" that her cult leader was looking for in his infamous call to Georgia election officials to corrupt the election.  That would please her friends in the White House and the Kremlin.

Leaders Of Farm Groups: "Widespread Collapse" Coming

In a letter (pdf) to House and Senate Agriculture Committee Chairs and Ranking Members on Tuesday, a bipartisan group of former Agriculture Department and farm sector leaders warned of a "widespread collapse of America agriculture" due to "the harmful and compounding effect that Administration policies are having on our farmers and on the long-term competitiveness of U.S. agriculture."  The letter was signed by 27 prominent leaders in the agricultural sector.  Here are some pertinent excerpts :

We write as a group of bipartisan former leaders of American agricultural commodity and biofuels associations, farm leaders, and former USDA officials. We have spent our entire careers working to build U.S. agriculture and are dismayed at the damage that is being done to American farmers.

Farmer bankruptcies have doubled, barely half of all farms will be profitable this year, and the U.S. is running a historic agriculture trade deficit. These metrics reflect a sharp reversal from record farm export surpluses and farm incomes experienced just a few years ago. [snip]

The reasons for the dramatic turnaround are complex, but it is clear that the current Administration's actions, along with Congressional inaction, have increased costs for farm inputs, disrupted overseas and domestic markets, denied agriculture its reliable labor pool, and defunded critical ag research and staffing. And these impacts are not happening in a vacuum. At the same time that farm country is reeling from these blows to agriculture, rural health care cuts are threatening a vital safety net for America's farm families. Congress needs to assert itself on behalf of farmers if we are to avoid a widespread collapse of American agriculture and our rural communities.

The letter cites all of the Malignant Fascist's dystopian policies in that last paragraph that are making our country -- not just the agriculture sector -- poorer, weaker, more inhumane, and subject to a mad megalomaniac's whims, enabled by a Republican MAGAt cult in Congress.  More validation of "when you elect a clown, expect a circus."

BONUS: Hey little people, there's always the $3 meal proposed by Agriculture Secretary Brooke "Schnook" Rollins. America's Golden Age is here!

Biggest January Job Cuts Since 2009

Trump stagflation continues:

U.S.-based employers announced 108,435 job cuts in January, an increase of 118% from the 49,795 cuts announced in the same month last year. It is up 205% from the 35,553 job cuts announced in December, according to a report released Thursday from global outplacement and executive coaching firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

January’s total is the highest for the month since 2009, when 241,749 job cuts were announced. It is the highest monthly total since October 2025, when 153,074 cuts were recorded.

“Generally, we see a high number of job cuts in the first quarter, but this is a high total for January. It means most of these plans were set at the end of 2025, signaling employers are less-than-optimistic about the outlook for 2026,” said Andy Challenger, workplace expert and chief revenue officer for Challenger, Gray & Christmas. (our emphasis)

The biggest job cuts were in Transportation (31,243), Technology (22,291), Healthcare (17,107), and Chemical manufacturing (4,701).

Not to worry, though.  When he's not covering up his massive presence in the Epstein Files, having his DHS domestic terrorists kill people and execute non-judicial warrants, seizing ballots from 2020 in Georgia, threatening new tariffs based on whims or slights (then walking them back), suing the Treasury Department for $10 billion taxpayer dollars, enriching himself and his family through foreign emoluments, letting a nuclear arms treaty with Russia expire while hamstringing Ukraine's defenses, building his $400 million golden ballroom, approving plans for his grand triumphal arch, critiquing the Grammys and writing promos for his wife's movie bomb, etc., he'll get right on it!

BONUSPlus, the lowest job openings since 2020.

Bezos' Washington Post Massacre, By The Numbers

Yesterday's massive layoffs at the Washington Post by Trump fart sniffer Jeff Bezos shocked and appalled anyone who remembers the Post as it once was under the Graham family.   The vulgar, sychophant billionaire has now succeeded in his apparent goal of making the country and world a little safer for Trump.  This comes only days after his $75 million bribe bomb movie "Eva Braun Melania" assaulted the theaters.  Here's the massacre, with some context, by the numbers:

Amount Amazon MGM Studios spent on the rights to “Melania” the movie: $40 million.

Amount Amazon MGM spent marketing “Melania:” $35 million.

Reporters laid off while in the middle of a war zone: At least one.

Number of Middle East correspondents and editors fired: All of them.

Amount of sports department remaining: None of it.

Reporters and editors in India and Australia: All laid off.

Books coverage: Gone entirely.

Journalists laid off: More than 300.

Presidential endorsements muzzled: One.

Cost of Jeff Bezos’ yacht: $500 million.

Median salary of a Washington Post employee in the Post’s Newspaper Guild: $99,904.

Estimated cost of Lauren Sanchez’s wedding dress: $300,000.

Jeff Bezos’ net worth: $245 billion.

Words Bezos and Washington Post publisher Will Lewis have devoted to addressing the cuts: 0.

Last reported annual losses of the Post: $100 million.

Number of years of losses Bezos could reportedly absorb with what he makes in a single week: Five.

This gutless, amoral billionaire -- who has major business interests dependent upon the corrupt Trump regime -- sacrificed what was once a jewel of American journalism to his greed and lust for power.

Here's a reminder, across the American media horizon, of some of the millionaires/billionaires with Trump ties or sympathies who own or control ...

-- Meta / Facebook / Instagram/ What's App/ Threads, etc. (Mark Zuckerberg);

-- X (Elon Musk);

-- Fox "News" Corp. / Wall Street Journal / New York Post (Rupert Murdoch family);

-- CBS (David Ellison);

-- Los Angeles Times (Patrick Soon-Shiong);

-- Minnesota Star Tribune (Glen Taylor);

-- Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (Richard Mellon Scaife);

-- Las Vegas Review-Journal (Adelson family);

-- Baltimore Sun / Sinclair Broadcast Group (David D. Smith)

-- One America News (Robert Herring, Sr.);

-- Newsmax (Christopher Ruddy);

-- Salem Media Group (Stuart Epperson);

-- Nexstar Media Group (Perry Sook) ...

... and so on, but not including much of "new media" companies and outlets that occupy so much of the landscape today.  We're still awaiting the outcome of the sale of Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns CNN, and is being pursued in a hostile takeover by the same David Ellison who bought (with his daddy Larry's money) CBS ("SeeBS") and turned it into another Trump-friendly property.

But Bezos.  Bezos' ambitious, heedless, greedy little fingers have torn down what was once a respected world-class newspaper and a First Amendment check on the powerful.  Of  all the monsters populating our country in these awful times, he occupies a special place.

BONUS:  Former Post editor Marty Baron said,

“Bezos’s sickening efforts to curry favor with President Trump have left an especially ugly stain of their own. This is a case study in near-instant, self-inflicted brand destruction.”

It's especially  ugly when you see the foreign and domestic bureaus that have been eliminated, including the one in California that covered tech accountability (including Bezos').

Good times.

QOTD: "No Judicial Warrant, No Problem"

"The latest memorandum from the Trump administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) cheerfully announces with bureaucratic calm what once would have been answered by revolutionary era muskets: federal agents may enter private homes without a warrant signed by a judge.  [snip]

"In practical terms, it gives the Trump administration license to break down doors without the traditional judicial oversight that has long been a cornerstone of American liberty.

"This is not merely a policy adjustment. It is a confession—of contempt for the U.S. Constitution and for the intelligence of the American public.

"The Fourth Amendment states in plain English that the government may not search or seize without a warrant issued by a neutral magistrate. It was written by our nation’s founders – people who had experienced firsthand the charms of having British agents, on behalf of King George the third, kicking in doors based on vague suspicions. The colonists found these encounters repugnant. The 4th amendment was their way of saying: never again. ICE’s memo is the modern Trump reply: just watch us..." --  David Shuster, Blue Amp Media Substack, on the most recent blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution by the lawless Malignant Fascist's regime.  These increasingly bold fascists regard the Constitution as merely advisory and obeying judicial orders as optional.   We doubt these thugs will pay any more attention to any "restrictions" that might be placed on them when Congress takes up the DHS funding bill over the next 10 days.

Mid-Week Song

Married couple Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks took their individual bands and formed one band, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, in 2010, giving us a range of new blues / rock songs from their talented band. Their 2012 Grammy for Best Blues Album (Revelator) and multiple Blues Music Awards since then have put them at the top of their musical genre.  They have a new album coming out in March, Future Soul, and we have a track from that album, I Got You, for today's song.

Damage Grows From Trump's Tariff Idiocy

As the Malignant Fascist grabs for anything to distract from his immigration enforcement disaster and his prominent placement in the Epstein - Trump files, his use of tariffs -- a tax on American consumers, which he doesn't understand -- has created possibly irreparable divisions with our allies and taken billions out of the wallets of American consumers who are suffering from his reactionary economic policies.  From the Associated Press:

'Bullied and buffeted by President Donald Trump’s tariffs for the past year, America’s longstanding allies are desperately seeking ways to shield themselves from the president’s impulsive wrath.

U.S. trade partners are cutting deals among themselves —- sometimes discarding old differences to do so — in a push to diversify their economies away from a newly protectionist United States. Some European governments and institutions are reducing their use of U.S. digital services such as Zoom and Teams.

Central banks and global investors are dumping dollars and buying gold. Together, their actions could diminish U.S. influence and mean higher interest rates and prices for Americans already angry about the high cost of living." (our emphasis)

The unstable and vindictive MF's unconstitutional tariff policy -- if whims and perceived slights can be called "policy" -- has proven to be as untrustworthy as the MF himself, and our trading partners are making sure they're protected:

"Just months after reaching his agreement with the EU, Trump threatened new tariffs on eight European countries for opposing his attempts to seize control of Greenland from Denmark – though he quickly backed down. And last month, he said he’d slap 100% tariffs on Canada for breaking with the United States by agreeing to reduce Canadian tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

'Our trading partners are discovering that the largely one-sided deals they concluded with the U.S. provide little protection,' said former U.S. trade negotiator Wendy Cutler, senior vice president at the Asia Society Policy Institute. 'As a result, trade diversification efforts by our partners are on turbo charge, looking to reduce dependence on the U.S.'’’  (our emphasis)

They're finding that bending the knee and awarding him trinkets doesn't work in the end, because like all extortionists, he'll always want more from them.

Last week, we noted his tariff temper tantrums had precipitated a blockbuster trade agreement between India and the European Union, and UK Prime Minister Starmer's visit to Beijing to promote trade ties, among other evidence of the MF's malign effects.  The impacts are just beginning to be felt by consumers and our exporting economy, which is facing reciprocal tariffs and countries taking their business elsewhere where they can.  America alone, MAGAts!

Josh Shapiro Fails To Meet The Moment

Gotta say, we're not too keen on this guy Josh anymore:

Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner is no stranger to opposition from within his own party, but the anger directed at him after he said ICE agents are “wannabe Nazis” was more vehement. Well, consider the source: Josh "Hi, I'm A Centrist Republicans Can Vote For" Shapiro and occasional Democrat Sen. John Fetterman

Shapiro called the comments “abhorrent” and said they don’t help “bring down the temperature.” (Is it just my imagination, or is it Republicans who keep attacking people and then blame Democrats for not bringing down the temperature?  [snip]

“Governor Shapiro is not meeting the moment,” Krasner said in an interview. “The moment requires that we call a subgroup of people within federal law enforcement — who are killing innocent people, physically assaulting innocent people, threatening and punishing the use of video — what they are. … Just say it. Don’t be a wimp. [snip]

On Fox News last week, Shapiro was asked about Krasner’s comparison of ICE agents to Nazis and called the comments “unacceptable.”

“It is abhorrent and it is wrong, period, hard stop, end of sentence."

Fetterman also appeared on Fox News and said he “strongly” condemned Krasner’s language. “Do not compare anyone to Nazis. Don’t use that kind of rhetoric. That can incite violence.”

That's right, Senator. All those "Minnesota nice" people are just asking for it. Don't blame ICE, or the people they work for.

On Fox "News" no less!  Well, those comments certainly disqualify him in our minds for any further consideration as a potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2028.  We prefer fighters like Govs. Walz (who, sadly, has decided not to seek elective office again), Pritzker, even a flawed Newsom, or AOC / Rep. Jamie Raskin / Sens. Chris Murphy and Mark Kelly to someone who chooses not to see and speak truthfully about the peril right in front of his eyes, for whatever self-serving reason.  We think the vast majority of Democratic voters think likewise.

We're also reminded of the rumors around his vetting for the Vice Presidential slot on the Kamala Harris ticket in 2024, when it was said by those involved in the process that, as a person and politician, he was "more ambitious than loyal," a point noted in Harris' memoir "107 Days."  He's also been out with his own memoir that makes counter incendiary accusations against Harris and the vetting process.  Not the drama we need going forward.  Fortunately, the Democratic Party has other options.

"Democracy Will Not Die In Darkness"

It's dying in the open, Nobel laureate Paul Krugman suggests in his Substack column today, picking up on the ironic and pompous Washington Post motto.

"The newspaper that broke the story of Watergate and brought down Richard Nixon has been Bezosified, its editorial independence destroyed and its newsroom increasingly eviscerated. Many other institutions, from other media organizations to some universities to law firms, have also become enablers of the regime. Big business has caved almost completely.

But it turns out that predictions of creeping authoritarianism both underestimated and overestimated MAGA. Almost everyone, myself included, underestimated how far MAGA would go in engaging in open violence and abuse of power against those it considers enemies. On the other hand, we overestimated the movement’s impulse control, its ability to mask its tyrannical goals until its power was fully consolidated. [snip]

Everything points to a blue wave in November. Yet many people in MAGA simply can’t accept losing power — among other things, their actions over the past year mean that if they lose power, many of them will go to jail.

Trump is now calling for 'nationalizing' the midterms, meaning to put voting and the counting of votes under his administration’s control. He can’t do that, but his demand is a clear sign that he will not accept the public’ s verdict in November.

So it’s just being realistic to say that MAGA will try, somehow, to prevent voters from having their say. Will ICE try to prevent blue districts from voting? If that fails, will they reject the results, in a midterm version of Jan. 6? Call me alarmist, but remember: The alarmists have been right, and the people telling us to calm down have been wrong, every step of the way."  (our emphasis)

It's not alarmist to see the un-American, anti-democracy actions of the demagogic Malignant Fascist and his minions out in broad daylight.  It's just a matter of putting two and two together.  The MF won't stand for another impeachment, a justified humiliation and attempt to bridle him in his first term.  Nor will he stand for a Dem majority in Congress to undo his growing fascistic, militarized, and crony capitalist state.  It will take everything to stop his attempts to corrupt the mid-term elections.   The fight is on and we have to win it.
