Trump's Lackey Jim Jordan Wants Jack Smith Prosecuted

This is the convicted felon Malignant Fascist's world, where "truth," "justice," and "weaponization" have no meaning, except to serve his demented, lawless purposes:

Here's the story:

President Donald Trump exposed his own revenge plot against the man who tried to prosecute him twice.

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, wrote to the Department of Justice on Wednesday night to ask it to consider criminally charging former Special Counsel Jack Smith for allegedly misleading Congress.

Trump, who has called for Smith to be jailed, applauded Jordan’s letter in a 5:31 a.m. Truth Social post on Thursday. “Justice at last???” the president wrote, attaching an article by pro-Trump outlet Just the News headlined, “House panel accuses Jack Smith of lying to Congress, urges DOJ to prosecute.”

Jordan’s letter landed on the desk of acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the president’s former personal defense attorney. Blanche stepped up to run the DOJ in April after Trump fired Pam Bondi in a tantrum over her failure to successfully prosecute his political enemies and has now been nominated to replace her.

A DOJ spokesperson told CNN it would “investigate all evidence of criminal conduct.” The network notes that members of Congress quite routinely fire off requests like this, and that the department is ordinarily free to can them if it sees fit.

Smith led two investigations into Trump under the Joe Biden administration. One probed Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, and the other his alleged mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Neither made it to trial. A judge threw out the documents case in July 2024, ruling Smith had never been lawfully appointed in the first place. Smith himself dropped both cases after Trump won that November, citing the department’s own rule against prosecuting a sitting president.

Trump, who was convicted of falsifying business records in a separate case, has long demanded jail time for Smith. Jordan now says in his letter that the former special counsel misled the House Judiciary Committee at a closed-door session in December, before Smith testified in public in January. The department handed the committee a stack of documents on July 14 showing Smith’s team had gotten hold of text messages involving members of Congress.

Jordan’s Wednesday letter doesn’t accuse Smith of saying anything untrue. It accuses him of giving “half truths” by not explaining where those texts came from—a move Republicans have been building toward for months.  [snip]

Rep. Jamie Raskin, the committee’s top Democrat, savaged Jordan for going after Smith over the texts. “The Republicans fault Mr. Smith for not reading the minds of congressional investigators and for not volunteering information they didn’t ask for,” he added. “This is absurd. Mr. Smith may be telegenic but he’s not telepathic.”

An X account for House Judiciary Democrats posted his statement with a rebuke of its own. “Republicans just sent a laughably weak and vindictive criminal referral of Jack Smith, the former Special Counsel who prosecuted Trump’s crimes, to the DOJ,” it wrote.

Xochitl Hinojosa, a Democratic strategist and former Justice Department spokesperson now at CNN, said Jordan was doing the president’s bidding. “Trump called for Jack Smith’s prosecution, so DOJ spent 20 months trying to find ANYTHING on Jack and failed,” she wrote. “Now we’re seeing a desperate attempt to try to prosecute this longtime career prosecutor for following the facts and the law.”

Trump has gone after other officials who investigated him, including former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Both were charged—and both cases collapsed.

Attorneys for Smith have hit back in a letter to Jordan and Blanche, calling his answers “unimpeachably truthful” and the referral “spurious.” The Daily Beast has contacted the White House, the DOJ, and Smith’s lawyers for comment on this story.  (our emphasis)

What a disgraceful, but completely in character, display of subservience by Jim "Gym" Jordan, whose own moral failures should have made him ineligible for office.  So far, the mentally and morally hollow Malignant Fascist has had little success in his revenge and retribution harassment tour, but the damage to the innocent individuals involved, who were just doing their jobs, is what should anger any person who loves what this country should stand for.

QOTD -- Defining How The Government Should Spend Tax Dollars

"... The second Trump administration is forcing the American people to define how they think the United States government should spend their tax dollars.

"Today Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) introduced a proposal to expand Medicaid to all American children from birth to age 26. Kim noted that about 4.4 million children in the U.S. don’t have health insurance and 23 million are underinsured. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act will make things worse.

"Joseph Choi of The Hill reported that Democratic senators Alex Padilla of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois are co-sponsoring the bill. The legislation proposing 'MediKids' has been endorsed by a range of organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“'Every child should have health care,' Kim said in a video. ''very child should have the ability to go to a doctor when they’re sick. Every child deserves to be healthy.' MediKids 'would automatically enroll every child in health care coverage at birth. Because the system we have right now isn’t working. Because healthy kids make healthy adults, and that makes for a healthier, stronger future for our country. Because, as a parent, you deserve to be able to provide care for your kids without worrying about going into debt, emptying your savings, or straining the family budget. And because…we all have a responsibility to care for each other.'”  -- Heather Cox Richardson, in her "Letters from an American" Substack, as part of her contrasting the Malignant Fascist's policies of Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program cuts, withholding billions of Medicaid dollars from California and Minnesota, degradation and dismantling of our National Park System, and requesting $67 billion in addition to the low-balled $37.5 billion already spent on Operation Epic Fail.  This is the choice, as John Pavlovitz put it, between a party that defaults to cruelty versus one that defaults to compassion

Mid-Week Song

Indie rock group Death Cab for Cutie has produced several platinum-selling albums over a 30 year span.  Their Grammy-nominated album "Plans" from 2005 cemented their status.  Their new album, "I Built You A Tower," was released last month, and a track from that album "Trap Door," featuring lead singer Ben Gibbard, is our song today.

Judge: BBC Can See Trump Financials In Lawsuit

Earlier this year, the lawsuit-happy con man and convicted felon the Malignant Loser sued the venerable British Broadcasting Corporation, falsely claiming that in a broadcast the network edited his infamous speech to his violent mob on January 6, 2021, to suggest that he called for violence ("if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore").  Yesterday a Federal judge in Florida ruled that, because the lying MF claimed the BBC broadcast injured his reputation, his financial and business records must be provided to the BBC in the discovery process.  From Politico:

"U.S. Magistrate Judge EnjoliquĂ© Lett concluded that Trump’s sweeping complaint put injury to his businesses at the forefront and made their vitality a fair subject for the BBC to demand information about.

'All of President Trump’s brand, properties and businesses are impugned or said to have been impugned. Reputational, economic damages, all of that is now at issue in this case,' Lett said at the conclusion of a three-hour hearing.

Her decision opened the door for the BBC to explore the finances of more than 400 companies owned by a Trump family trust, but Trump can appeal the ruling to U.S. District Court Judge Roy Altman, a Trump appointee."  (our emphasis)

You can bet that the moronic MF will do everything he can to avoid releasing any of his financial and business records, just about as fiercely as he's blocked the release of the remaining Trump-Epstein files to shield his perverse relationship with the pedophile.

As in many of his frivolous lawsuits intended to intimidate, misdirect and gaslight, the MF has shot himself in the foot with his false claims.  This legal boomerang, if it gets past an MF-appointed judge, is a classic: handing financial information on himself to one of the world's greatest media companies.

Pricing Out Trump's Mis-Adventure In Iran

If we're to believe DUI hire "Whiskey Pete" Hegseth's testimony yesterday (we don't), the Trump Operation Epic Fail quagmire, a.k.a. the war in Iran, has cost the American taxpayers $37.5 billion just to fund the military campaign (not counting the impact on gas prices and other downstream costs):

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faced fiery questions and protests Tuesday over the U.S. war with Iran, which he estimated has cost $37.5 billion so far, as Republicans prepare a $95 billion package to fund the military, along with other White House priorities.

Hegseth provided the new estimate, up from earlier assessments, during a combative Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, which came days after the Pentagon announced that three more American service members have died in the conflict, bringing the death toll to 17, and that more than 100 have been injured since early July. Several times protesters interrupted his opening remarks.

Hegseth said the supplemental war funding is an “urgent, necessary” injection of money, and with President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget a generational investment in the military. [snip]

President Donald Trump has said repeatedly that “a deal is near, and the war will be over soon,” she [Democratic Sen. Patty Murray] said. “But now, he’s asking for $70 billion more — and for us to just trust him it’ll all work out fine.”

Others have been keeping track of the pricetag, though.  They've put the cost at well over $150 billion in military, energy, borrowing, food, etc., with no end in sight for the clowns running the show in the White House and Secretary of High-T's office.

QOTD -- Dividing Lines

John Pavlovitz discusses why America isn't politically divided, it's morally fractured.  Here's the heart of his observation:

The dividing lines in America have nothing to do with party affiliation anymore.

Just open up your phone, eavesdrop at the checkout line, or talk to your neighbor, and you’ll see the lines along which we now find ourselves:

One side celebrates innocent people being assassinated in front of their children, without due process.

One side rejoices in strangers going without food or medical care or housing, without knowing a single one of their stories.

One side applauds the bombing of foreign school children and the destruction of entire populations.

One side blindly despises other people for their gender identity, despite it having no impact on their lives whatsoever.

One side reduces an entire population to terrorists and drug dealers to justify their swift eradication.

One side conflates whiteness with righteousness.

One side defends the protection of pedophiles.

One side steadfastly worships a felonious, treasonous rapist.

And none of this is about politics; it’s about when faced with the suffering and injustice in our path, whether we will default to compassion or to cruelty...

Faced with these contrasts, millions of Americans will choose the "cruel side" former pastor Pavlovitz cites above, again and again.  He's written in the past about the necessity to ostracize them if America's to survive.  That's why it's always good to remember that while the Malignant Fascist is perhaps the purest manifestation of this moral evil in our history, it's dark ugliness certainly preceded him and will certainly outlast him as the "cruel side."

More Tariff Idiocy From The Malignant Fascist

Always looking for ways to undermine our friends abroad, while pleasing our adversaries, the deranged and vindictive Malignant Fascist is imposing 50% tariffs on many Canadian goods, ostensibly in retaliation for Canada restricting U.S. goods.  The tariffs would take effect in 30 days.  The MF has also mused nonsensically about punishing Canada for the fires burning there which have caused smoke across the upper Midwest and east coast.  From the Associated Press:

"President Donald Trump on Monday imposed 50% tariffs on most Canadian goods, declaring that Canada has unfairly discriminated against American autos, alcohol and dairy products.

The move could unleash a new wave of economic chaos, with risks of higher inflation and further fraying of relations between two nations that had been closely woven together before Trump’s return to the White House. The administration official previewing the action said that Canada was one of the only nations other than China that retaliated against Trump’s previous tariffs and must be held accountable.

The official insisted on anonymity on a call with reporters to preview the president’s actions and said that Trump signed three proclamations to launch the tariffs under Section 338 of the 1930 Trade Act. Several Democratic lawmakers last year proposed repealing the section because they said Trump could use it to destabilize the economy." (our emphasis)

Of course, this destructive action will raise prices for American consumers, and likely force Canada to impose similar tariffs on U.S. imports, all because the MF is unmoored and vengeful over the smallest perceived slight.  The MF is ordering the tariffs under section 338 the 96 year old 1930 Trade Act, after having been rebuffed by the Supreme Court last February on broad tariffs that he imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, but without Congressional authorization.

Judge Pauses Trumpian Paramount - Warner Merger

A coalition of twelve states' attorneys general won a 14-day temporary restraining order from a Federal judge to delay the Malignant Fascist-friendly merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.  From NBC News:

"Paramount Skydance’s takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery hit a roadblock Monday after a federal judge temporarily paused the proposed merger, granting a request from a coalition of 12 state attorneys general who sued to thwart the $110 billion deal.

U.S. District Judge Araceli MartĂnez-OlguĂn of the Northern District of California issued a temporary restraining order barring Paramount from closing the transaction, a corporate tie-up that would unite two movie studios, two streaming platforms and two news organizations under the control of David Ellison, the son of billionaire technology tycoon Larry Ellison.

MartĂnez-OlguĂn’s order said the restraining order will remain in effect for 14 days. She scheduled an Aug. 3 hearing on the states’ motion for a preliminary injunction, which would freeze the transaction while the legal process plays out."

Right-wing MF-megadonors father-son duo Larry and David Ellison got the MF's regime's green light from the Justice Department and the FCC, likely by suggesting that CNN -- which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery -- would be giving the MF more favorable coverage in the future if the merger went through.  Earlier this year, the MF's regime approved the acquisition of Paramount by Ellison-owned Skydance Media which resulted in CBS' turn to the right under David Ellison and his pick to head CBS News, right-winger Bari "Bad News" Weiss.  A number of journalists were fired, including 60 Minutes stalwarts Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecelia Vega and Scott Pelley, while Stephen Colbert's The Late Show, which targeted the MF for criticism and ridicule, was cancelled.

QOTD -- A Disgusting, Reprehensible Display

"... Trump’s display, therefore, was not just embarrassing. It was disgusting. It was reprehensible. It was yet another instance of him showing disregard and contempt for our military. Indeed, while reports came in of Americans killed and missing over the course of the weekend, he played golf, he attended parties, and he could barely be bothered to comment on the tragedies unfolding thanks to his malevolence and incompetence. 'Very sad,' was all he could muster, almost dismissively as during past such instances when he shrugged off the loss of life as just the sort of thing that happens in war.

"Happens to soldiers. Happens to innocent civilians. Does not happen to serial draft dodgers or rich guys who live in gilded palaces and who care not one whit for the consequences of their actions and policies.

"It was another nauseating, Nero-fiddles-while-Rome-burns display of insensitivity from the American president. Gut-wrenching. Infuriating...
" -- David Rothkopf in his "Need To Know" Substack, on the Malignant Fascist's trying to bask in Spain's glory yesterday at the World Cup final as troops die in his war with Iran, in "Ten Reasons Why The war with Iran Is Going From Bad To Worse."  Read his excellent piece, and you'll see the tie-in.
