Wearing a safety pin has become the symbol to vulnerable, harassed minorities that the person wearing the pin is a safe person, a protector. Great to see an icon like LeBron James, who just won the Sports Illustrated "Sportsperson of the Year" award, with a big silver safety pin on his left lapel. Good man.
