Sunday Reflection: What We Can All Do

Not many of us are out in the streets just yet (may come sooner rather than later). But for those still reeling from the shock of last Tuesday and wondering where to start fighting back, here are just a few ideas for beginning the push- back against the ugliness of Trumpism that's manifesting itself even before the shitgibbon is inaugurated:

- Volunteer or donate to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, CASA, or any charity of your choice that provides emotional support, shelter, food or comfort to those who are under duress;

- Be heard:  make sure your Congressperson and Senators know that you want them to stand up to Trump and his alt- right agenda;  let the media know if you see them "normalizing" this disgusting cretin who will use the power of the presidency to comfort the comfortable and afflict the afflicted;

- Wear a safety pin.  It's been used in Australia and Britain to show solidarity with people who are the target of racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic attacks, and now:
There’s now a burgeoning effort in the United States for people to start wearing the safety pin stateside in the face of post-election attacks and harassment. Having to adopt a symbol of anti-violence and anti-bigotry is not exactly what any of us thought we’d be doing in the wake of a presidential election taking place in 2016, but it could be one small way to signal that you’re an ally (regardless of who you voted for) to someone who probably didn’t think they’d be in this vitriolic and volatile situation either.

The more people know about this, the more effective it will be, so put on your pins and spread the word.

BONUS: Blog favorite and superstar Katy Perry is donating $10,000 to Planned Parenthood to show her solidarity and to serve as an example to the rest of us. Well done.

(h/t dear friend P.E.C. for the safety pin tip)
