Sunday Reflection

At the conclusion of the Synod on the Family, Pope Francis had some hard truths for the right- wing bishops who thwarted his desire to have the Catholic Church adopt a more forward- leaning position toward the LGBT community.  We hope he can find new postings for the medieval clerics (largely from Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe) who opposed him -- as well as a few sedition- minded American right- wing clerics = cough= pedophile protector Cardinal Dolan =cough= who richly deserve early retirement as well. 

Cardinal Dolan - The Face Of What's Still Wrong With The Catholic Church

The moral midget who protected pedophile priests and hid money intended for victims of that sexual abuse while Archbishop of Milwaukee, New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan, was asked about the pending Supreme Court Hobby Lobby case on "Face the Nation" Sunday.  Dolan, known as the Republican Party's Cardinal, offered his support to the plaintiffs and then pulled this straight out of his ample ass:

“Is the ability to buy contraceptives, that are now widely available — my Lord, all you have to do is walk into a 7-11 or any shop on any street in America and have access to them — is that right to access those and have them paid for, is that such a towering good that it would suffocate the rights of conscience?”  (our emphasis)

A Sem'n'Elemen? Jeez, those contraceptives must've been hiding behind the Slim Jims.  We'll have to look more closely next time.  But, if they're out, we're sure "any shop on any street" will have them.

As for "the right of conscience," this hack has no moral authority to talk about "conscience" in the first place.  What gall.

What does it take to get someone like this overfed huckster "retired" to the Old Reprobates Home?

DNC Batting 1 for 2 on Catholic Benedictions

Reports are that Network's Sister Simone Campbell (of Nuns on the Bus fame) will be giving the benediction to the Democratic National Convention next week, the night before (WTF!?!) Cardinal Timothy Dolan (of Pedophiles Anonymous) will be giving his benediction to the Convention. Dolan, of course, is giving the benediction to the Rethug Convention tonight, so it raises questions in our minds why would the Democratic Party want to give this slug a place of honor at the podium given the giant carbuncle he's been to the Obama Administration on contraception and same-sex marriage? As Andrew Sullivan rightly pegged him, he's the Republican Party's Cardinal, a "Catholic pol." Was Pat Robertson not available? James Dobson?

Anyone who's heard the great Sister Simone would know you don't need any one else blessing you, least of all Dolan. I can't wait to see the reactions of the Democratic delegates when he slips in a few lines about contraception and traditional marriage. Rest assured the media will have their cameras in the delegates faces to record the scowls and raspberries. Makes for great counter-messaging, dumbass DNC!

"Catholic Pol" to Offer Benediction at Rethug Convention

Look for this over-stuffed slug (left) to give the benediction one night at the Rethuglican National Convention (unless an Act of God intervenes -- hee-hee). That would be pedophile protector Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York. Here's Andrew Sullivan's take on the "Republican Party Cardinal:"

"And make no mistake: Dolan is an old-school Catholic pol - a figure who approved payments to molesting priests to expedite their firing, brazenly lied about it, then ran away abroad when the press demanded an explanation. His most important issues are criminalizing abortion, stripping gay couples of any civil legal protection, and making sure that non-Catholic employees of Catholic hospitals and schools be denied access to insured contraception. That he is saying the benediction for a ticket that explicitly endorses a priority for the super-rich over the working poor and views illegal immigrants as beneath contempt also tells you a lot about Dolan's priorities."

In other words, he's just the kind of pol-in-a-pulpit that should shame anyone calling themselves Catholic.

Pay-for-Pedophilia

From the AP:
"The Archdiocese of Milwaukee confirmed Wednesday that it had a policy to pay suspected pedophile priests to leave the ministry.

"The acknowledgement was prompted by a document made public by abuse victims' advocates from the archdiocese's bankruptcy that references a 2003 proposal to pay $20,000 to 'unassignable priests' who accepted a return to the laity. The policy was crafted under then-Archbishop Timothy Dolan, who is now a cardinal and head of the archdiocese in New York."

That would be the same Timothy Dolan who is leading the charge against the Affordable Care Act as an "act of religious freedom." Back in Milwaukee when he was questioned about a payoff to a notorious pedophile priest, Dolan said the notion he knew anything about it was "false, preposterous and unjust." So to summarize, in Cardinal "G.O.P." Dolan's "spiritual" cosmos it's o.k. to buy off a pedophile priest and not report him to authorities, but it's sacrilege for people to use contraception and for the Obama Administration to require private insurance providers to cover contraceptives in policies to which Church institutions subscribe. Oh, and Dolan's a liar to boot.

Wow. When did this guy's moral compass go awry?
