Weekend Birthday Music

 

We can't let the week pass without noting the 80th (!) birthday of the Rolling Stones' (Sir) Mick Jagger on July 26.  Although not our favorite Stone (RIP Charlie, ta Keef!), Jagger is unquestionably one of the key artists of the rock era of the past 50+ years.  Beyond that, he's in pretty remarkable physical shape, performing live weeks after having aortic valve replacement in 2019 and in 2022 continuing a tour after recovering from COVID.  Not your typical geriatric!  

Here's the first Jagger/ Richards composition to go to #1 in the UK (#9 in the US), 1965's "The Last Time," performed live in Ireland.

A belated happy birthday to the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger, who turned 75 (!) yesterday. An undeniably major force in rock & roll for five decades, Jagger's someone whose libertine public face and freewheeling personal life belies his conservative political views. Nevertheless, anyone with the backstory of Jagger and the Stones who made it to 75 deserves a tip of the hat, and this birthday salute (we eagerly await Keith's 75th birthday coming up in December!). Weekend Birthday Song Twofer

Yesterday was Rolling Stones founder and singer Mick Jagger's -- excuse me, Sir Mick Jagger's 69th birthday. This year is also the Stones' 50th anniversary as as band, one of the most important and successful bands in rock history. It was extremely difficult picking just two songs from their catalog (and these aren't necessarily our favorites), but as representative of Jagger and the Stones' work, they'll do just fine. (Please feel free to turn the volume up!)

Mid-Week Song

Yesterday was Mick Jagger's 68th birthday, so happy birthday Sir Mick. He's had a musical career for nearly 50 years, and is still going. This song was featured in the soundtrack of "Alfie." The video features Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics) and scenes from the movie starring Jude Law. As the lyrics say, "old habits die hard, old soldiers just fade away." With the exception of Sir Mick.

Birthday Boy

Sir Mick Jagger was born 67 years ago today in Dartford, England. Here are a couple of the Stones' tunes, out of literally dozens that made them famous. Enjoy.
