Weekend Song: Sir Paul's Poignant New Single

Music giant and international treasure Sir Paul McCartney, who will be 84 years young in June, hasn't stopped making glorious music that the world loves. He has a new album -- his 20th solo album --  coming out in a few weeks, "The Boys of Dungeon Lane," a reference to a road in Liverpool "along the Mersey shore" where as a child he bird watched and swam. 

"Days We Left Behind" is a song from that upcoming album that was released recently: a lovely, wistful melody that has Sir Paul almost whispering the deeply personal lyrics accompanied by an acoustic guitar and piano. Just beautiful. (Sir Paul will be the featured guest for SNL's season finale on May 16, so he's likely to sing this and other songs from the new album).

Legendary singer / composer / cultural icon Sir Paul McCartney celebrated his 77th birthday yesterday. As a solo artist and with the Beatles, he has won every major award in music, and many from a grateful U.K. We've picked just two of his most popular songs to say "happy birthday." The first, appropriately, is "Yesterday," in a live recording from a Beatles concert in 1965 in Blackpool, England, and the second, "Band On The Run," is with Wings in a remastered 2010 recording.

BTW, if you go to Sir Paul's TF, you'll see lots of disturbed (in more ways than one) Stormtrumpers who apparently find it surprising he might be endorsing Hillary Clinton (which he hasn't, so far). Being "poorly educated" f*cknuggets like their hero, it must have escaped their awesome powers of perception that Sir Paul endorsed President Obama for reelection in 2012.  (You know what's coming.)  Sad!

Sir Paul McCartney turned 70 years young on Monday, which is another of those "I can't believe time has passed so quickly" realizations in life.
