Voter Suppression, Peach State Style

Attempts by Republican officials to suppress voters that will likely vote Democratic have been rampant in recent years.  The basic idea is that the Rethugs are losing voters with each election, as the populace becomes more diverse, younger, and better educated.  So their solution is:  instead of letting the voters select us, let's select them.  It can be onerous voter ID requirements that target minorities and the young, restrictions on early voting and voting hours that discriminates against working women, and other tricks.

In Georgia, Rethuglican Secretary of State Brian "Democracy? F-ck It!" Kemp has decided that vigorous voter registration among minority groups can't be tolerated, so he's launched a bogus "voter fraud" investigation looking at the registration forms for typos, blanks, etc.  Here's what he had to say to a group of KKK fellow Rethuglicans this past July:
"...Democrats are working hard, and all these stories about them, you know, registering all these minority voters that are out there and others that are sitting on the sidelines, if they can do that, they can win these elections in November." (emphasis added)
Exactly.  That's why it's so important to register as many of the estimated 700,000 African-American voters in Georgia, as civic groups are doing now.  If just half of that number gets registered and turn out to vote, Mr. Kemp and his ilk can pack their bags.

How's That Republican Rebranding Coming Along? Minority Female Dept.

After their flop in 2012, the Rethuglican Party has claimed to be seeking a more inclusive approach to minority and women voters.  They've certainly tried to cosmetically put their craven politicians at the forefront of such debates as immigration reform (Sen. Marco "Glug Glug" Rubio) and women's reproductive rights (Rep. Marsha "Man's World" Blackburn).

It looks like their rebranding efforts have run into a bit of a snag again.  Erika Harold is a black female, the 2003 Miss America winner and a Harvard Law School graduate.  She's a Rethuglican running against Rethug incumbent Rep. Rodney Davis in the primary, and that's made some ol' boys in the Montgomery Co. (IL) Rethuglican Party angry, especially their county chairman Jim "Jim Crow"Allen, who wrote this lovely missive:
"Rodney Davis will win and the love child of the D.N.C. will be back in Shitcago by May of 2014 working for some law firm that needs to meet their quota for minority hires... Now, miss queen is being used like a street walker and her pimps are the DEMOCRAT PARTY and RINO REPUBLICANS."
We suppose he's angry because his white hood and sheets came back from the cleaners with wrinkles. This is the quintessential teabagging Rethug these days: deranged, angry, racist, and misogynist. They need to be kept as far away from the levers of power as we can keep them.  Oh, and Ms. Harold, what the f*ck are you thinking running with these s.o.b.'s?

UPDATE:  Apparently, Allen was too much even for the Rethug Party:  he's been forced to resign.

Rethuglicans Racist? Nah!

From the Facebook page (since taken down*) of Yellowstone County, Montana, Rethuglican/ New Confederate/ Stupid Party Chairman Jennifer Olsen (kudos also to limp dick Rich Diamond, whoever that asswhistle is):

Olsen is quite an up-and-comer in the teatard/ Rethuglican Party in Montana.  No wonder.  Hey, good luck with that re-branding!

Quote of the Day: Giving Away the Game Edition

The demographics race we’re losing badly. We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.” -- Sen. Lindsay Graham (Rethug-Cradle of the Confederacy), in the Kaplan Daily (our emphasis). But we're sure your party will keep trying for as long as it can.

Today's Read

Harold Meyerson asks of the New Confederate/Rethuglican Party:
"But how is it that the South has come North in today’s GOP? The fact that Barack Obama is our first black president coincides with the United States’ transformation from a majority-white nation to a multiracial country no longer destined to remain the world’s hegemon. Augmented by an intractable recession rooted in a crisis of capitalism, this epochal shift has summoned the shades of racial resentment. To the extent that Republicans can depict government as the servant of this rising non-white America (precisely the purpose of Romney’s ads), the South’s antipathy toward government can find a receptive audience in other regions."

Meyerson traces the links between the Old South of Jim Crow, racial resentment, and Christian fundamentalism to today's New Confederate/ Rethuglican Party with its old, white core. When you see those Romney/ Rethug ads on welfare, entitlements, and scope of government, apply Meyerson's analysis and you'll understand why we see this as one of the most cynical, dishonest, racist campaigns in our lifetime. Lee Atwater would be so proud of Willard.

Racialism, Rethugs and Tin Man

TNR's Jonathan Chait does a nice job of dissecting the nexus of Tin Man Steele, the Rethugs' history on race, and the Rethug faux outrage over the Harry Reid quote. It's all a reflection of the Rethug ethos, from Steele, to Limbaugh, to Robertson, to Lott. (h/t to Germantown's own, Brian)

Racist Rethug of the Week

Tangipahoa (!) Parish "Justice" of the Peace KKK-Keith Bardwell (Rethug-LA) is facing calls for his removal by Louisiana politicians, including Gov. Bobby "Kenneth" Jindal (Rethug) and Sen. Mary Landrieu (DINO). He's the peckerwood who refused to marry an interracial couple recently, arguing that he's not a racist, he just wanted to spare any future children the couple may have from the heartache of being ridiculed by racists like...um...him. Not to worry. There are millions more like him ready to take his place.
