Trump's NRA-Approved Proposals

"If you want to kill any idea in the world, get a committee working on it." - American inventor Charles Kettering.

The news that Very Stable Genius Donald "Rump" Trump has re-aligned himself with his stalwart supporters at the National Rifle Rampage Association on the question of how to prevent school shootings can't come as a surprise to anyone with a pulse and at least a double- digit IQ.
The White House on Sunday vowed to help provide “rigorous firearms training” to some schoolteachers and formally endorsed a bill to tighten the federal background checks system, but it backed off President Trump’s earlier call to raise the minimum age to purchase some guns to 21 years old from 18 years old.
Responding directly to last month’s gun massacre at a Florida high school, the administration rolled out several policy proposals that focus largely on mental health and school safety initiatives. The idea of arming some teachers has been controversial and has drawn sharp opposition from the National Education Association, the country’s largest teachers lobby, among other groups. Many of the student survivors have urged Washington to toughen restrictions on gun purchases, but such measures are fiercely opposed by the National Rifle Association, and the Trump plan does not include substantial changes to gun laws.
Rather, the president is establishing a Federal Commission on School Safety, to be chaired by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, that will explore possible solutions, such as the age requirement for purchases, officials said.  (our emphasis)
Yasss!  Exploring "possible solutions," with the exception of anything that might be a "possible solution."  When the tiny, sane step of raising the minimum age for buying an assault rifle is a bridge too far for these sociopaths, you know the NRA still has them by the short hairs.

Even Rump's rotted- out- regime shysters know what a time- killing scam this is:
At a political rally Saturday night in Pennsylvania, Trump mocked the idea of commissions to solve the nation’s drug epidemic. “Do you think the drug dealers who kill thousands of people during their lifetime, do you think they care who’s on a blue-ribbon committee?” Trump said. “The only way to solve the drug problem is through toughness.”
Administration officials demurred Sunday night when asked why Trump found commissions an inadequate response to the drug epidemic but an appropriate way to respond to gun massacres. (our emphasis)
Here's your answer:  drug dealers aren't funding Rump and those coin- operated Republicans, gun dealers are.

BONUS:  Steve Benen reminds us why it's no use looking to Rump for "policy" (spoiler alert: because he's an incompetent idiot).

BONUS II:  What she says --

Rump's "Modest" Proposal: Guns Guns Everywhere!

Not hearing the voices of the students and parents impacted by gun violence in schools at yesterday's photo op, neo-fascist demagogue and puppet of the National Rifle Rampage Association Donald "Rump" Trump went full metal wingnut on the absurd concept that teachers should be armed, deputized guards to deter deranged shooters armed with military-style assault weapons. Wait, aren't they supposed to be teaching, and aren't local law enforcement supposed to be the guardians?

Rump's inane proposal went even beyond his NRA handlers' position. He wants to arm thousands upon thousands of teachers -- with concealed carry handguns, no less -- and suggested paying them a "small" bonus to do that. Imagine the confusion and collateral damage when you have a dozen teachers firing at....other teachers or innocent students in the panic and chaos. Here's Rump from White (Supremacist) press pool notes this afternoon:
“You can’t hire enough security guards … Your need 100, 150 security guards … But you can have concealed on the teachers.”
You can't hire enough security guards? We thought Rump revered local law enforcement; why not give them the task of protecting schools? The answer is that it won't stop someone from using an easily-purchased AR-15 or Bushmaster-style weapon, someone carrying an AR-15 and wearing body armor who is determined to settle some score or another, cops or no cops. It's the guns, stupid.

Yesterday's photo op/"listening" event was simply a diversionary script that the NRA is pushing: thoughts and prayers, address mental health issues, "harden" schools (what do you do about hardening churches, concert venues, malls, etc.?), but nothing about the common instrument in all of the carnage, namely, military style assault weapons that are meant for the battlefield, not for the public.
