The "New Normal" In The Republican Party

Charles P. Pierce on the "new normal" in the Republican/ New Confederate/ Stupid Party -- impeaching President Obama (or, more accurately, pretending to be serious about impeaching President Obama):

Be advised. The United States House of Representatives -- one-half of the national legislature, which is one third-of the national government, if you're keeping score in civics class -- exists now solely to gin up enthusiasm in, and to raise money from, the increasingly demented political base of the Republican party. It is a campaign mechanism, not a governing institution. If it were a governing institution, it would have actual leaders who would tell the more demented members of firm to knock this pointless shit off and get on with the business of proposing policy alternatives as part of the business of running the country.

Lest there be any doubt in your mind that this is a cottage industry grifting the bitter, low-information wingnut population, just type in "Impeach Obama" in Google Images and check out the plethora of bumper stickers, mugs, etc., available for sale to these yahoos.  Once you get past that, consider the fundraising going on now in the looniest precincts of America using the meme of "Obama The Tyrant," or some feverish variation on that theme.  Sic transit gloria, America.

Some Will Ask

"With the Obama White House’s total lack of transparency, it’s no wonder that some will ask whether they staged even a fainting lady in the Rose Garden.  What was once a major leap in logic has become a single step because President Obama has lied so often and so blatantly..." -- former half-term Governor and word salad generator Sarah "Winky" Palin, commenting in her Facebook page on the event held by President Obama to discuss problems with the Affordable Care Act roll-out.

With nonsense like this emanating from her, it's no wonder that "some will ask" whether Winky's head is filled with little gnats, whose tiny wings create just enough wind energy to power her brain.  It's possible.

O'Keefe's Latest Oeuvre

Lights! Camera! Mug shot! Right-wing video doctor James "G. Gordon Diddy" O'Keefe may just have crossed the line again, this time by engaging in voter fraud in the recent New Hampshire Rethug primary. It seems the young dimwit and his band of, er, dimwits videotaped an election official while they were in the process of committing voter fraud! Why would anyone with a brain do such a thing, and provide the video evidence? (I believe I answered that question while asking it.) They're trying to show how important it is to have tough voter I.D. laws, that's why by crackey! (In other words, they're involved in the ongoing Rethug voter suppression effort.)

For his noble efforts, G. Gordon is facing potential state charges of voter fraud and illegally recording an election official, and federal charges of crossing state lines to record an election official and identity theft. The little ass whistle is already on 3-years probation for "entry by false pretense" into Sen. Mary Landrieu's office with the intention of wiretapping her phone. We'd like to see him put his mad videographic skillz to a real test with a hidden camera in the showers at the Atlanta Penitentiary.
