Republican Crime Blotter - Hastert Going To Jail

It's a busy day for Republicans in the judicial system.  Let's catch up with longest- serving Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert:
Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) was sentenced Wednesday to 15 months in jail for bank fraud charges after admitting he had sexually abused students while working at a high school decades ago.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin sentenced Hastert to the jail time, followed by two years of supervised release, and issued him a $250,000 fine. The former speaker must also attend sex offender treatment and will not be allowed to contact his alleged victims, Durkin added.  [snip]
“Nothing is more stunning than having ‘serial child molester’ and ‘speaker of the House’ in the same sentence,” Durkin said.  [snip]
Before retiring from politics in 2007, Hastert championed tough punishment for child predators and worked extensively on health care laws.
That's a real piece of work for you.

Case Study In Republican Hypocrisy: Dennis Hastert

Former longest- serving Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert is currently in the sentencing phase, having pleaded guilty for paying hush money to a young person he sexually molested decades earlier. Due to the statute of limitations, Hastert won't face child sexual abuse charges, but that's not stopping the prosecutors from bringing out all Hastert's dirty laundry:
In a document that outlined sentencing recommendations, prosecutors said Hastert molested at least four boys involved with the wrestling team. They detailed how he offered massages in a locker room, then inappropriately touched some boys. Another alleged incident occurred in a motel room on a wrestling trip.
It's difficult to imagine Hastert's behavior changing later in his life, but so far no one has come forward to level additional charges.  Meanwhile, it's instructive to remember just what a hypocrite this serial child molester was (click on image to enlarge):

Remember who preceded Hastert?  First, there was serial adulterer and tax cheat Newt Gingrich, followed by Bob Livingston, who withdrew as Speaker- designate after it was disclosed that he, too, had an extra- marital affair.  A Republican rogue's gallery to be sure.

It's become clear over the years that the Republican Party has become the home and safe place for racists, homophobes, sociopaths, frauds, quacks, bullies, sexual predators, yahoos and hypocrites of all stripes -- and  those are just the elected ones!  Whether or not the party survives long into the future doesn't much matter, since such a deeply flawed segment of our population will always find a way to organize themselves along the principles of selfishness, self- aggrandizement and afflicting the poor and defenseless.  Whatever name they choose, they'll always be "Republicans."

Today's Republican Crime Roundup

It's been a perp-tacular day in Republican criminal activity!  Who's the first to frog- march down the aisle?  Why it's Fox "News" contributor Wayne "007" Simmons.  Oh, he's a real piece of work.
A Fox News commentator who has been lying for years about working for the Central Intelligence Agency was arrested on Thursday and is being charged in connection with falsely claiming he worked as an “Outside Paramilitary Special Operations Officer” for the CIA for nearly three decades.
Wayne Simmons, a 62-year-old who lives in Annapolis, Maryland, was arrested by federal authorities following his indictment by a federal grand jury for allegedly committing major fraud, wire fraud, and making false statements to the government.
Someone was lying on Fox "News"!!  Who'da thunk it!? We thought it was their business model.

Who's next?  Why is that ol' high school rasslin' coach and former Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert?  We believe it is:
An attorney for Dennis Hastert told a federal judge Thursday that the former House speaker intends to plead guilty in a federal hush-money case.  [snip]

A plea deal would avert a trial and help keep any potentially embarrassing secrets quiet.
The 73-year-old Illinois Republican is charged with breaking banking laws and lying to the FBI in efforts to pay someone $3.5 million to hide claims of past misconduct.
The Associated Press and other media, citing anonymous sources, have reported the payments were meant to conceal claims of sexual misconduct decades ago.
Ol' Denny's rasslin' with some demons, no doubt.  What a Grand Old Party!

Hopefully, A Trend Starts

In the special election held to fill former Speaker Dennis "Super Size Me" Hastert's seat (and that's a big "seat" to fill, bwahahaha), Democrat Bill Foster won by a good margin. This congressional district has been reliably conservative Rethuglican for decades, and the Rethugs poured $1.2 million into the race to hold on to the seat. Ominous for the Rethugs, and hopeful for the Dems.

Rethug Quitters

Two Rethuglicans are announcing their intent to back away from the political fray:
Former Speaker Dennis "Super Size Me" Hastert will not be completing his term in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Sen. Sam "Who?" Brownback will be dropping out of the Presidential race, not that anyone noticed he was in it to begin with.

Rethugs Head for the Exits

Following the exit of Turdblossom from the White House, more Rethug pols have decided they've had enough. Tub o' goo Dennis Hastert, former House speaker, is expected to announce his retirement Friday. Fellow Illinois Rethug Ray LaHood announced his retirement a few weeks ago. Oh, and same goes for Ohio Rethugs Deborah Pryce and Ralph Regula, future California cons Jerry Lewis and John Doolittle, and Rick Renzi. Hastert, who resembles someone who literally fell into the pork barrel and decided to stay until the entire content was consumed, represents a district that has drifted Democratic in recent years and will certainly be targeted for pick-up in 2008.

Don't let the screen door hit ya where the dog should've bit ya!
