An Armey of One

The recent meltdown at millionaire-funded, tea bagger astroturf organization "Freedom Works," wherein a veritable armed coup d'etat was attempted by former Rethug House Majority Leader Dick "Dick" Armey, has been captured best by this, from the inimitable Charles P. Pierce:
Dick Armey walks into the Wingnut Welfare equivalent of NORAD, and he brings along an "aide" who's packing, and he walks out with eight million bucks? You do that at a Gas 'n Sip and walk out with $50 in quarters and you do 10 years. The rich are different from you and me. Many of them are morons.

Regardless of the schadenfreude one can get from watching these truly awful people engaging in their petty power struggles, it's sobering to note that the plutocrat keeping this "grassroots" organization afloat, Richard J. Stephenson, has $8 million to throw at Dick Armey just to keep his stank out of the "Freedom Works" suite.

An Armey Of None

We saw former Rethug Congressman Dick "What A Dick" Armey on Tweety's "Hardball" show last night, and were only mildly surprised to see What A Dick toss a few insulting words to co-panelist Joan Walsh of Salon.

"I'm so glad that you could never be my wife because I surely wouldn't have to listen to that prattle from you every day," What A Dick said after Walsh blasted his Rethug colleagues for wrecking the economy with their policies. Walsh shot back, "Well, wow, that makes two of us sir." Indeed. What A Dick couldn't get an inflatable doll to date him.

What A Dick was called out in the next segment by New York Times columnist Bob Herbert, who said What A Dick should apologize to Walsh. Tweety, who's clueless about appropriate behavior toward women, belatedly agreed that What A Dick's comments were "overboard," which is where What A Dick should be tossed.

An Armey of One

Former House majority leader Dick Armey had some unusually candid comments about Hillary Clinton at a luncheon last week, as reported in today's WaPo "In the Loop." Armey, who has been critical in recent times about the influence of the Christian far-right in politics (not to mention the failings of his fellow Texas Rethug, Tom "Bug Spray" DeLay), said:

"[Clinton] is the most able politician in America... I don't think Hillary Clinton is going to make a mistake. She's going to win that election."

Armey also said Rethugs should keep their distance from the likes of James "My God is a Vengeful God" Dobson, head of Focus on the Family: "You could probably hurt yourself electorally by making Jim Dobson happy."
