More on Romney's Dishonesty

Charles Blow in the New York Times offers several reasons today why Willard "I Cannot Tell A Lie" Romney is probably going down on Tuesday. One of the reasons matches what the Kaplan Daily said in its editorial today (see "Update" below):

"Evidence continues to emerge that Romney is one of the most dishonest, duplicitous candidates to ever seek the presidency."

As we've indicated many times, if dishonesty were a disqualifier for the presidency, Willard wouldn't have made it past the first month of his 7-year quest.

Mitt's Mendacity - Farewell Edition (?)

With any luck, and the Rethuglicans not being able to disenfranchise enough people in Ohio, this will be the last edition of the chronicling of the untruths coming out of the lie-hole of Willard "Mendacious Mitt" Romney for the forseeable future. Once again, the work is actually Steve Benen's, and we're certain he's hoping this is the last he'll have to go hip-deep into the sewage coming out of the Rethuglican's standard bearer. As Benen puts it,

"Little did I know at the time that Romney would become an ambitious prevaricator, whose rhetoric would come to define post-truth politics. Nearly 11 months after Greg Sargent's harmless suggestion, I've published 40 installments of in this series, which, before today, featured 884 falsehoods. (If you include today's edition, the new total is 917 falsehoods for the year.)

"I wish that were a typo. It's not." (our emphasis)

This week, lie #7 (the racist dog-whistle that Obama "gutted welfare reform") and lie #12 (JEEP is moving to China), are two particularly vicious lies that Willard refuses to let go of.

In the unlikely, but possible, event this gilded turd is elected President of the United States on Tuesday, Americans will have elected a man with neither scruples, moral core, nor the capacity to be shamed by his pathological lying -- Richard Nixon without the 5 o'clock shadow. It's our duty to do everything we can as Americans not to let that happen.

UPDATE: In an editorial today, the Kaplan Daily adds:

"Mr. Romney...seems to be betting that voters have no memories, poor arithmetic skills and a general inability to look behind the curtain. We hope the results Tuesday prove him wrong."

One of the benefits of the election being a mere 11 days away is that we will soon be free of the obligation to bring you Steve Benen's weekly chronicle of the toxic bilge coming out of the lie-hole of Willard "Charge of the Lightweight Brigade" Romney. Here's this week's sad litany of Willard's struggles with the truth. But first, Benen relates this joke (which none of the esteemed "fact checkers" in the media would get):

"[A] man dies, goes to heaven, stands before St. Peter, and sees a huge wall of clocks. The man asks what all the clocks are for and St. Peter explains, "These are lie clocks. Everyone on earth has a lie clock. Every time a person lies, the clock hands move."

Pointing to one, the man says, "Whose clock is that?"

"That's Mother Teresa's," St. Peter answers. "The hands have never moved, indicating she never told a lie."

"Incredible," the man responds. "And whose clock is that?"

St. Peter responds, "That's Abraham Lincoln's. The hands moved twice, telling us he told two lies in his entire life."

"Where is Mitt Romney's clock?" the man asks.

"Romney's clock is in Jesus' office," St. Peter says. "He's using it as a ceiling fan."

Once again, how is it that this thing is polling in the mid- high 40's?

Serial liar and empty vessel Willard "Binders Full of Women" Romney knows that honestly stating his proposed policies would drive voters away. He's comfortable with lying about his positions (and those of his reactionary running mate), as long as they move him closer to being elected, and it's working. He's being rewarded by a bump in the polls.

This is the price democracy pays for its low information "swing" voters (and a cynical, compromised political press corps that rarely calls the Rethugs on their lies for fear of being labeled "biased").

Gag. Eh. Bleaaah. It's still weeks before the election and we don't know about you but the Romnesia's made us rather sick. But once again, as a public service, Steve Benen chronicles the bald-faced lies coming out of the lie-hole of gilded turd Willard "Human Weathervane" Romney. Looksee if you dare.

It's Friday, so that means another collection of bald-faced lies from Willard "Mendacious Mitt" Romney, and another opportunity to ask the question, "How can this gilded turd be polling in the mid-to-upper 40's?" Frankly, it's just reached the point that he has no constraints on his lying -- none imposed by the media, none imposed by his "conscience." None. So, our favorite quote in Steve Benen's essential but depressing chronicle this week comes not from Willard, but from an Onion piece on Willard's campaign strategy:

"I'm lying a lot more, and my lies are far more egregious than they've ever been."

No truer words have ever been put in the mouth of Willard Romney! (That's the only way true words could end up in Willard's mouth, of course.)

Willard's Continuing Makeover

With his Etch-A-Sketch plan in high gear, plutocrat prevaricator Willard "Weathervane Willard" Romney has shifted positions on tax cuts for the wealthy, on health care, and on other issues in an attempt to disguise his and his party's extreme right wing positions. Now, it's women's reproductive health. After lying in an interview with the Des Moines Register that, "There's no legislation with regards to abortion that I'm familiar with that would become part of my agenda", Willard's staff had to walk back his new position to one more in line with his party's reactionary policy toward women's' reproductive rights:

"Gov. Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life."

Willard has clearly made the calculation that the rabid right wing base of his party has nowhere to go in November and will vote Rethuglican even if the candidate were a head of cabbage, their hatred of the President is so consuming. Thus, he feels free to lie, shift, misrepresent and dodge in order to convince enough undecided/low information voters that he's not the clueless, coreless job exporter that he really is. The next few weeks will be a test of voters' tolerance of deceit on Willard's part.

How many Americans were fooled by Willard Weathervane's performance on Wednesday night? He has no problem whatsoever in saying whatever he thinks the audience wants to hear at that moment. The Obama campaign needs to hit Willard's dishonesty and lack of principle hard in the weeks remaining. Here's a good start:

It's Friday, so here's another installment of the chronicles of the lies of one Willard "I'll Say Anything" Romney, thanks to the keen eye of MaddowBlog's Steve Benen.

It's hard to pick just one favorite out of this week's debate deceptions, but one favorite is Willard's claim that his plan would not lower taxes on the very wealthy. His performance in Wednesday night's debate was a model of political deceit, with Willard lying about the President's record on the one hand, and fabricating new positions for himself on the other.

Well, here we are again with another s**tload of lies from Ol' Willard "Mendacious Mitt" Romney (courtesy of the thankless work done by Steve Benen). This week, we would like to point out Old Chestnut #14, wherein Mendacious Mitt recycles the lie that President Obama wants to take the work requirement out of welfare. He should have realized by now that that dog isn't hunting (thanks in large part to Bill Clinton's intervention).

Most laughably, Mendacious Mitt's campaign has said he's going to lie about "fact check" the President at their debate next week. That should work well, given the public's perceptions.

The imploding catastrophe that is Willard "Get Off My Lawn, You Moochers" Romney's campaign is still churning out lies as fast as Willard's lips can move -- the idea being to throw everything against the wall to see if anything sticks. One lie we would like to note this week is #19 in Steve Benen's invaluable weekly listing: that President Obama's plans to eliminate the Bush tax cut for the wealthiest Americans are "plans to raise the federal income tax on small business even more."

Never was true. As Benen points out, 97 percent of small businesses would not have their taxes raised one penny. Moreover, we saw in a recent poll that small business owners support Obama over Willard by 47 to 39 percent, so it's clear they're not buying Willard's shit "Shinola".

And, from the esteemed Nobel laureate Paul Krugman, this assessment of how weird Willard's craven antics regarding the tragedy in Libya will be viewed by the press:

"...now Romney has really ensured that everyone in the news media, the GOP propaganda organs aside, is going to view him with distaste and alarm — as well they should. Romney could still win, but he has just made it even harder for anyone to consider him suitable for the job."

Hopefully that will be the case, but we remain pessimistic about the media's willingness to put objectivity over false equivalence.

All Shook Up

Watching serial liar and well-lubricated weathervane Willard "Sketchy" Romney navigate his way through Sunday news interviews was amusing. He'll say different things to different audiences, as we well know. His latest "Etch-A-Sketch" moment was on Dancin' Dave Gregory's Press the Meat, where he proclaimed himself in favor of retaining some elements of "Obamacare" after spending the better part of two years demagoguing and promising to abolish it. Only hours later, Sketchy Willard -- this time playing to a right wing radio audience -- reverted to his "death to Obamacare" routine.

For a campaign that won't let facts govern it, even this is a new low of selective pandering and dishonesty, and we suspect it's only going to get worse in the next 57 days.

Another week and smug plutocrat and reasonable facsimile of a human being Willard "Corporations Are People, But Ryan And I Aren't" Romney is busy growing his bionic nose to ever-greater lengths. Thanks again to Steve Benen for chronicling the lies of the past week. You'll notice the usual debunked ones, like the Obama "apology tour" and Obama is gutting the welfare work requirement. Repeating them reveals, to us anyway, that Willard is still trying to rev up his low-information, high-prejudice base with 2 months until the election-- not where you want to be at this point. Still, he's on course to make the late Rethuglican Liar-in-Chief Richard "I Am Not A Crook" Nixon look like a saint by comparison.

Fresh off his convention fail, another pack of lies from the lying lie-hole of Willard "Mo' Shambles" Romney, as dutifully chronicled by Steve Benen. It's all there -- from the "stimulus didn't create jobs" to the "Obama apology tour" to the "Obama doesn't have a jobs plan" to his lies about Medicare -- all the favorites repeated over and over by this pulse-less turd.

We want this S.O.B. beaten so badly in November that he can't show his lying face in public for years.

Another week, another laundry list of lies from the lie-hole of entitled plutocrat Willard "Birfer Boy" Romney, from lies about his taxes, to lies about his tax policy, to lies about Obama's welfare policies, to lies... oh well, you get the idea. The man is a lying asshole, not to put too fine a point on it. The lies are getting so tedious, repetitive and pervasive that it's gone from being somewhat farcical to downright sickening.

But, in the interest of chronicling this very public, ongoing display of sociopathic behavior for posterity, we will continue to hold our nose while Willard's grows.

This week's list from Steve Benen totals 33 lies emanating from the lie-hole of reliable liar Willard "Mendacious Mitt" Romney. There are so many egregious lies, so many distortions, so much evidence that Willard thinks the American people are just bone-deep stupid (well, we know his base is), that it's hard to pick a "worst." Anything smokescreening the Rethug plan to dismantle Medicare will do for a start.

We also now have the Ayn Rand acolyte, Paul "Lyin'" Ryan to keep up with, and look he's pumping the lies out as fast as his lips can move.

Once Again Willard, Prove It

Plutocrat and reliable liar Willard "Trust Me, I'm Wealthy" Romney wants you little folks to know he's checked and, yes, he's always paid his taxes, so move along, move along:



The Obama campaign responds:

"Mitt Romney today said that he did indeed ‘go back and look’ at his tax returns and that he never paid less than 13% in taxes in any year over the past decade. Since there is substantial reason to doubt his claims, we have a simple message for him: prove it. Even though he’s invested millions in foreign tax havens, offshore shell corporations, and a Swiss bank account, he’s still asking the American people to trust him. However, given Mitt Romney's secrecy about his returns, coupled with the revelations in just the one return we have seen to date and the inconsistencies between this one return and his other financial disclosures, he has forfeited the right to have us take him just at his word."

And Sen. Reid office responds:

"We'll believe it when we see it. Until Mitt Romney releases his tax returns, Americans will continue to wonder what he's hiding. Romney seems to think he plays by a different set of rules than every other presidential candidate for the last thirty years, all of whom lived up to the standard of transparency set by Mitt Romney's father and released their tax returns."

The ball's still in your court, Willard.
