Willard "Charge of the Lightweight Brigade" Romney strikes, uh...confusion into the hearts of the mullahs as well as the rest of the world. (Willards's tango horsey -- nice touch!)

Debate Preview
Steven Colbert helps us with what to look for in tonight's presidential debate - the mainstream media need for a "game changer" moment, the lowering of expectations, and the Zinger-winger, Willard "I'm Mitt Romney, And I Memorized That Zinger" Romney:

If Elected, Willard's "Mental Well-Being" Would Concern His Wife
Ann Romney to Nevada television station KTVN when asked what her biggest worry would be if Willard was elected President:
(Photo: "Oops. Did I just say that?")
"I think my biggest concern obviously would just be for his mental well-being. I have all the confidence in the world in his ability, in his decisiveness, in his leadership skills, in his understanding of the economy. ... So for me I think it would just be the emotional part of it."Wow. Just. Wow.

Mitt's Mendacity, Cont.
Well, here we are again with another s**tload of lies from Ol' Willard "Mendacious Mitt" Romney (courtesy of the thankless work done by Steve Benen). This week, we would like to point out Old Chestnut #14, wherein Mendacious Mitt recycles the lie that President Obama wants to take the work requirement out of welfare. He should have realized by now that that dog isn't hunting (thanks in large part to Bill Clinton's intervention).
Most laughably, Mendacious Mitt's campaign has said he's going tolie about "fact check" the President at their debate next week. That should work well, given the public's perceptions.

Political Analysis of the Day
"The Romney campaign is skidding along on its axles and scraping its muffler. Soon it will be down to the dog on the roof.... But as I have been saying for a while now, Mitt Romney is a deeply flawed candidate who got the Republican nomination by beating a ludicrously weak field. Don’t believe me? You know who came in second? Rick Santorum. Newt Gingrich was third, and Ron Paul was fourth. That’s not a field; that’s a therapy group. [snip]
"I can summarize what Romney said to a bunch of wealthy donors at a May fundraiser: America is divided between the deserving rich and bums who want a handout. Vote for me, and I’ll keep you rich. Thank you very much. Enjoy the chicken." (our emphasis) -- Roger Simon in that bastion of Rethuglican-wired Conventional Wisdom, Politico.

A Sad Trombone Sounds for the Romney Campaign
Now that the back-stabbers and finger-pointers (or is it back-pointers and finger-stabbers?) are in full stabbing and pointing mode in Willard "Mo' Shambles" Romney's beyond-incompetent campaign operation and the accompanying wingnut wurlitzer, we like Wonkette's take on the notion that the Mo' Shambles campaign is in "McCain-Palin" territory:
"No, grim-faced Sads. You are well past McCain-Palin ticket territory; you have entered Reagan/Mondale territory, and despite all appearances, you are not Reagan. Saaad trombone! (Quoting the New York Times:)
'Aides did little to hide their annoyance: on Tuesday night, a Romney aide cursed loudly as he tried to corral reporters into an impromptu news conference in Costa Mesa, Calif.
'Mr. Romney himself seemed pensive on the early-morning flight Tuesday from California to Utah, sitting alone with a white legal pad and a pen as he picked at a vegetarian breakfast burrito. An aide said that he had eaten dinner alone in his hotel room the night before as the video controversy began to unfold.'
There has never been more tragedy in one place than when Mitt Romney dined on a vegetarian burrito alone."
PHOTO: "My good man, would you care for the rest of my breakfast vegetarian burrito? I might be able to take it off on my taxes as a charitable deduction!"

Willard to Coal Miners: "You've Got a Great Boss"

At a photo-op campaign stop in Ohio coal country, Willard "Mr. 1 %" Romney spoke in front of an assembled group of coal miners and commenced to relate on a human level:
"You've got a great boss, he runs a great operation here."
Yes, yes, a great boss and great operation... Hmm, what? He did what? The "great boss" made the miners' attendance mandatory, and refused to pay them for the lost work day?! YES!! Now that's a GREAT BOSS... by Willard's standards!
(Photo: "I'm a great boss, aren't I my good man... a little more shine or there's no tip... well, aren't I?")

"Mathematically Impossible"
Middle class tax increase. That's the conclusion that must be drawn from outsourcing pioneer Willard "Soak the Middle Class" Romney's reverse Robin Hood tax policy, as discussed by Ezra Klein today. The non-partisan Tax Policy Center conducted an exhaustive evaluation of Willard's plan to cut taxes for millionaires while purportedly reducing the deficit. They tried to give the plan a fair shake, but as Klein notes,
Willard's campaign response? No rebuttal, just trying to smear the messenger, whom the campaign had earlier praised for its "objective, third-party analysis." As Klein continues,
I think that's another way of saying "Put up or shut up, Willard."
"The numbers never worked out. No matter how hard the Tax Policy Center labored to make Romney’s promises add up, every simulation ended the same way: with a tax increase on the middle class. The tax cuts Romney is offering to the rich are simply larger than the size of the (non-investment) deductions and loopholes that exist for the rich. That’s why it’s 'mathematically impossible' for Romney’s plan to produce anything but a tax increase on the middle class." (our emphasis)
Willard's campaign response? No rebuttal, just trying to smear the messenger, whom the campaign had earlier praised for its "objective, third-party analysis." As Klein continues,
"The Romney campaign has not provided good answers to the questions raised by its own math. But we already knew the Romney campaign didn’t have good answers. If Romney had good answers, he would have made good on his rhetoric and put his plans on the table."
I think that's another way of saying "Put up or shut up, Willard."

Retired Retroactively Romney Clarifies Things
We're all-videos, all-the-time today. Here's one from the Obama Truth Team mocking one Willard "Retired Retroactively" Romney's lawyerly word salad "clarifying" things about his Bain Capital retirement days. Love the Insp. Clouseau-evoking music throughout and the woman's laughing and saying "That sounds very suspicious" starting at about :45. Ouch. That's gotta hurt, Willard.

What A Campaign In Full Panic Mode Looks Like
John "Who Knew?" Sununu, Cuban-born spokesman for the increasingly desperate campaign of "Retired Retroactively" Romney, said in a call with media representatives that President Obama needed to "learn how to be an American." Judging from the quick walkback and subsequent damage control, the Romney campaign must wish Sununu would learn how to be a surrogate.

Quick, Scrub That Romney Website!
Willard Romney campaign web site Fail, via Daily Kos:
"Ha ha! From Mitt Romney's Courts & The Constitution campaign website page:
"So to recap, Republicans nominated the Father of Obamacare, and has pledged to nominate justices in the mold of Chief Justice Roberts, who upheld Obamacare."

Landslide Willard
Willard "Etch-a-Sketch" Romney: the candidate even Rethuglicans still don't like:
You're going down, Willard.
"Mitt Romney set a record with at least two of Tuesday's primary wins, but it's an achievement the presumptive Republican nominee probably won't be bragging about.
"The former Massachusetts governor won Delaware with 56 percent of the vote and Pennsylvania with 58 percent. According to University of Minnesota political scientist Eric Ostermeier, that marks the first time that a presumptive GOP nominee has failed to reach the 60 percent mark in a contest conducted after his last major challenger exited the race."
You're going down, Willard.

Is Team Willard Measuring the Drapes in the Oval Office Already?
Deep-pocketed suckers, take note:
More likely, this is what will be happening on Inauguration Day:

"The [Romney] campaign is asking people who are able to make a $50,000 contribution to do so today and become a “Founding Member” of Romney Victory. These donors will be invited to a special retreat with Governor Romney in late June in California and will have preferred status at the first Presidential Inaugural retreat as well as yet to be determined access at the Republican National Convention in Tampa in August."
