Pic Of The Day: Follow The Dear Leader
Con man and demagogue Donald "Rump" Trump follows his new partner, dictator Kim Jong Un, after signing the vague and non-binding letter at the Singapore photo-op.
In his time spent with Kim, Rump was seen patting his arm, his back and deferring to Kim when entering rooms and just walking about. Rump wanted this photo-op so badly he ended up using North Korea's terminology for the defensive joint military exercises with South Korea, e.g. "provocation" and "war games." Credit to Kim for exposing Rump's neediness.

What If They Had A Rally And Nobody Came?
Such small hands, such small crowds, such failure.
A cardinal rule in political advance work is not to book a venue that's way too large for the audience size. Talking to empty seats looks.....sad!

Pictures Of The Day: Resist

A group of several Greenpeace activists climbed a construction crane this morning at 15th and L Streets, just blocks from the White House, and unfurled a large banner with the word "Resist" on it.
Just in the past 24 hours, con-man-in-chief and serial liar Donald "Rump" Trump approved the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipeline projects that will transport liquified oil shale -- perhaps the dirtiest of carbon products -- across the U.S. to the Gulf coast where it will be processed and shipped to global oil markets. Along with the nomination of climate change denier Scott Pruitt to be EPA administrator and a media blackout of EPA demanded by Rump, "Resist" will be an imperative.

All Fall Down Pic of the Day
After yesterday's farcical event staged by neo-fascist carnival barker Donald "Rump" Trump where he promoted his tacky hotel in Washington, D.C., paraded a bunch of dead-enders on stage to sing his praises, and briefly acknowledged the falsity of his lie about President Obama's birthplace, the backdrop that had been used collapsed, taking with it some American flags. Symbolic of Rump's un-American, racist birther campaign that launched his foray into politics? Works for us.

Frederick County, Maryland bigot Shaun Porter is mighty p.o.'ed that a black family moved next to the house he's renting, so he did what every unhinged bigot does: engage in non-stop harassment and belligerent acts against said neighbor. It's gotten to the point where Porter is possibly facing hate crimes and harassment charges from the State's Attorney's office. (We wonder if the home's owners know what their renter is doing on the property they own, too, and if they can't kick his flag-of-treason-wrapped ass out.)
The picture shows Porter and his middle school age son (racism is passed from one generation to another) waving their Confederate treason flags on the front lawn. Also note the "Mental Ben" Carson campaign banner, because bigots always appreciate having an Uncle Ruckus (or Clarence Thomas, or Herman Cain, etc.) to point to and say, "we're not racist, we like him."

A U.S. Marine prepares to raise the flag at the newly-opened U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba this morning, as Secretary of State John Kerry stands in the background, center.
Kerry, speaking at times in Spanish, emphasized the political differences with Cuba over human rights, but stressed that a policy of engagement was the path most beneficial to Cubans and Americans alike.

This intricate design in the sand on the sea floor was made by a small puffer fish, barely visible in the center of the "wheel" as a dark sliver.
Here's a video of this amazing little artist in action. Truly a natural wonder.

Mourning Nemtsov Picture of the Day
Tens of thousands of mourners marched in Moscow today, carrying banners and photos of slain opposition leader Boris Nemtsov, who was assassinated early Saturday as he walked within sight of the Kremlin in central Moscow. Nemtsov was a passionate critic of Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin's regime and in particular his aggression toward Crimea and Ukraine. Many of the marchers chanted "Russia without Putin." As one opposition leader stated, "The authorities are corrupt and don't allow any threats to them to emerge. Boris was uncomfortable for them."

"Corporations do not equal people": an image projected on the side of a building across the street from where the delusional Willard "Corporations Are People" Romney spoke in San Diego last night. As he stumbles into the 2016 Rethuglican nomination clown car, Lord Mittens should expect more disrespect from the "little people" that don't buy his elitist blather.
Well done.

Weeper of the House John "Mr. Tangerine Man" Boehner must feel powerless sometimes, with his out-of-control, off-the-deep-end teabagger Representatives calling the shots. Well, he still has one friend: a wind-up toy monkey, which we're sure he prefers to talk to rather than the teabaggers. The whole situation makes him want to cry….
UPDATE: Meanwhile, the wingnuts in the House are allocating $350,000 on a frivolous lawsuit against the President that everyone knows is going nowhere. But, cut those food stamps!
UPDATE II: We know one thing is making Mr. Tangerine Man happy - he's pulled down some nice profits from a corporate tax dodging (inversion) scheme.

Pic Of The Day
Ferguson, MO saw more disturbances last night, after Thursday's night of calm. A group of looters were out and did some damage before larger groups of men doing the right thing (above) began to block entry to the stores so that the looting would stop. Some of the men kept repeating, "Man, you're better than that," and "Who you out here for? Better be Mike Brown."
Washington Monthly's Martin Longman (of BooMan Tribune) notes that the police were strangely passive in the face of the looting. Looting can swiftly turn public opinion away from the underlying incident that caused the unrest, and away from the actions of the Ferguson and St. Louis County police departments. As Longman says of the police, "It's as if looting serves their purposes."

Hurt Feewings Picture of the Day
We would have liked to have been in the room during this part of President Obama's meeting yesterday with Texas Gov. and future LensCrafters spokesman Rick "Hair" Perry (top left), who seems to be putting on a pouty face while the President is laughing -- possibly at something Gov. Hair said. Also, do you think he could have sat any further away from the President and still been in the room? Next time, get a high chair for Gov. Hair.

And the Rockets' Red Glare, The Flag Flaming In Air...
We're sure the Atlanta Braves didn't count on their new scoreboard fireworks setting off the American flag attached to it a couple of days ago, but stuff happens, as they say. Fortunately, the flag was made from fire-retardant material and the flames died quickly, as did the scoreboard- with-fireworks idea. Frances Scott Key would have been proud.
