Former Republican Presidential nominee and man with a residential car elevator Willard "Mittens" Romney has widely known problems with the candidacy of neo-fascist demagogue and fellow plutocrat Donald "Rump" Trump. He expressed his enmity toward Rump in an epic poo-fling back in March, when the #NeverTrump exercise was underway, and called him everything but a child molester. Clips from that epic take down are already being incorporated into Dem ads for the general election.
Now Mittens is saying that Rump, who is refusing to release his tax returns before the election, is hiding a "bombshell" in those returns, adding that Rump's refusal to release them is "disqualifying" for the Presidency. (Recall that Mittens and Mrs. Mittens once had a different attitude when they adamantly refused to release theirs in 2012 until the pressure to do so became overwhelming). Mittens is hinting that the refusal to release his taxes may point to Rump's alleged ties with organized crime, which is known to have influence over the construction trades, or inappropriate foreign entities. With impeccable timing, Stephanie Mencimer reports in Mother Jones that documents regarding the criminal activities of a former Rump business associate are being released by a Federal court in New York.
It's probably too much to imagine that this will be the beginning of Rump's unravelling, since his rabid, low-information fans are sure to dismiss any factual evidence against him as an "establishment" conspiracy. But having Rump refuse to release his taxes to clear up the question of whether Rump had or has ties with organized crime is a great gift.
