"Marie Antoinette / Epstein Ballroom" Unpopular

According to an ABC News / Washington Post / Ipsos poll released yesterday, the megalomaniacal Malignant Fascist's 900,000 square foot gilded ballroom, which forced the destruction of the White House's East Wing, is pretty unpopular with the public. Only 28% of the public support the MF's elitist ballroom, while 55% oppose it. Sixteen percent aren't sure, because they are too busy following reality TV. The support numbers break down as 62% Republican, 17% independents and 4% "Democrats". A further breakdown of the numbers is provided in the report. The MF's grandiose project comes as the Government is shut down, prices on consumer goods are rising, health insurance costs are expected to skyrocket, food insecurity is on the rise and the MF's tariffs are taking a bite out of middle class families budgets.

The poll was conducted between October 24 and October 28, with 2,725 respondents. The margin of error is 1.95 percent at the 95% confidence level.

Trump Blinks, Orders Senate To Kill Filibuster

Feeling the heat from polls that show the majority of the public blames him and his MAGAt Congress for the devastating government shutdown, the Malignant Fascist virtually ordered the Senate MAGA majority to kill the filibuster rule and put a stopgap 2026 spending bill up for a majority vote.  The Dems would have no way of leveraging the filibuster to get concessions from the majority, but conversely the Republicans and the MF would have to take full responsibility for the damaging cuts to programs from SNAP to children's cancer research, to drastic cuts in education and other domestic programs.  From the Associated Press:

"President Donald Trump is calling on the Senate to scrap the filibuster, so that the Republican majority can bypass Democrats and reopen the federal government.

“THE CHOICE IS CLEAR — INITIATE THE ‘NUCLEAR OPTION,’ GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER,” Trump posted Thursday night on his social media site, Truth Social.

The filibuster is a long-standing tactic in the Senate to delay or block votes on legislation by keeping the debate running. It requires 60 votes in a full Senate to overcome a filibuster, giving Democrats a check on the 53-seat Republican majority that led to the start of the Oct. 1 shutdown when the new fiscal year began.

Trump’s call to terminate the filibuster could alter the ways the Senate and congressional dealmaking operate, with the president saying in his post that he gave a “great deal” of thought to the choice on his flight back from Asia on Thursday."

As the article points out, the Senate will be out over a long weekend; the House has been out for a month, largely because Pipsqueaker of the House Mike Johnson and the MF don't want a vote to pass the discharge petition for the Epstein files.  Johnson has avoided swearing in Rep. Grijalva of Arizona who would provide the decisive vote on the Epstein measure.

Trick Or Treating Trump

We got a nice news wrap of the last few days from Stephen Colbert:  the Malignant Fascist's back in the U.S. "after collecting treats in Asia," an MF message suggesting he might need another cognitive test, the MF's inane "negotiation" with China that took us back to where we were 9 months ago (after all the economic pain and uncertainty of those last 9 months), FBI loon Kash "No Credit" Patel's expensive date at taxpayer expense, and more.

QOTD -- Volcanic Heat

"... The Republicans are feeling volcanic heat from below, as supporters face dramatically increasing health insurance premiums, especially in states without expanded Medicaid coverage. Food stamps benefit plenty of Republicans, too. Oklahoma has the fourth-greatest number of recipients, according to one survey. Louisiana has the second-most. (New Mexico is No. 1.)

"If I’m right, and the shutdown is being seen more broadly as legitimate resistance to Trump’s illegitimate rule, the point could be made more memorable by GOP voters going hungry while watching Trump build his gold-gilt 'ballroom' paid for by 'friends.' And if that pain goes on long enough, the Republicans risk reminding their base that, though they dislike the Democrats, their lives are entwined with their policies.

"It’s the Republicans, not the Democrats, who need an off-ramp. They risk revealing that Trump’s power is more important to him, and to them, than the health, well-being and freedom of their supporters..." -- John Stoehr, The Editorial Board, on the politics of the Government shutdown, and why it's the MAGAt Republicans who need an off-ramp, not Democrats who're fighting for popular policies the MAGAts want to kill.

How sure are we that the Democrats have the overwhelming leverage?  This sure:

As the ongoing shutdown of the federal government nears its 30th day, a new Yahoo/YouGov poll shows that nearly twice as many Americans want it to end with Democrats getting their way rather than Republicans.

Only 26% of Americans, meanwhile, approve of how President Trump has been handling the shutdown. A full 65% disapprove.

The survey of 1,770 U.S. adults was conducted from Oct. 23 to 27, as Senate Democrats refused for the 12th and then 13th time to support a Republican-backed funding bill to reopen the government.
(our emphasis)

Keep fighting, Dems!

MAGAt Senators Have A Beef With Trump

The deranged Malignant Fascist's dealings with his odd Argentinian counterpart Javier Milei has caused some real dissension in the ranks of MAGA. First, it's the $20 $40 billion bail out of their economy, when our Government is shut down, and an imminent halt to SNAP payments and higher health insurance costs are creating a crisis for families here.  Then, his idea of buying Argentinian beef to flood the market here and lower prices has cattle farmers up in arms in a number of MAGAt states.  From Politico:

"For President Donald Trump, it was a brief musing to reporters on Air Force One about his plans to import beef from Argentina. For dozens of farm-state Republicans who have held their tongues as key Trump policies battered their constituents, it was the final straw.

GOP lawmakers in cattle-producing states unleashed a flurry of calls over the following days to the White House and Agriculture Department. A small group of Republican senators, including retiring Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, cornered USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins in a private meeting less than 48 hours after the Oct. 19 comment.

This could not go on, they argued.

So far, the burst of objections has not generated a U-turn from the administration, which is going ahead with a beef import plan that Trump officials argue will both lower steak and hamburger prices for American consumers and bolster relations with a key Trump ally, Argentinian President Javier Milei.

But it has exposed the limits of GOP lawmakers’ tolerance for policies that have especially tested states heavy on agriculture. Some of the president’s staunchest Hill allies watched for months as Trump’s tariffs devastated farmers. More recently, they begged his deputies to reopen key farm offices during the shutdown. Then came the beef beef, with one GOP senator granted anonymity to speak candidly calling it a 'a betrayal of America First principles.'”

To add insult to injury, the MF hit back at ranchers telling them they're better off now that he's President and to stop whining.  The term "FAFO" applies here, as the MF has been blithely sticking it to his nominal constituents in places like Iowa, Nebraska, Texas and more, and they're naively wondering what they did to cause their cult leader's betrayal.  Tip: it's because he's a megalomaniac and sociopath whose only concern is himself.

Meanwhile, the MF met with Chinese leader Xi in South Korea to sign a trade deal that, on the face of it, looks like the MF is going back to worse than the status quo was before his destructive tariffs.  Gone is the 100% tariff threat, while the MF begs Xi to buy our soybeans again, and suggests that highly valued, sophisticated NVIDIA chips be sold to China, in exchange for more of their rare earth elements.  They don't call him TACO for nothing.

Trump Orders Restart Of Nuclear Weapons Testing

It appears "Donald the dove" wants to see some big 'splosions:

U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. military on Thursday to immediately resume testing nuclear weapons after a gap of 33 years, minutes before beginning a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump made the surprise announcement on Truth Social while he was aboard his Marine One helicopter flying to meet Xi for a trade negotiating session in Busan, South Korea. He said he was instructing the Pentagon to test the U.S. nuclear arsenal on an “equal basis” with other nuclear powers.

“Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately,” Trump posted.

“Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years.” [snip]

The reaction to Trump’s announcement on testing was swift. Representative Dina Titus, a Democrat from Nevada, said on X: “I’ll be introducing legislation to put a stop to this.”

Daryl Kimball, director of the Arms Control Association, said it would take the United States at least 36 months to resume contained nuclear tests underground at the former test site in Nevada.

“Trump is misinformed and out of touch. The U.S. has no technical, military, or political reason to resume nuclear explosive testing for the first time since 1992,” Kimball said on X.

He added Trump’s announcement could “trigger a chain reaction of nuclear testing by U.S. adversaries, and blow apart the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

Apart from providing technical data, a U.S. test would be seen in Russia and China as a deliberate assertion of U.S. strategic power. Putin has repeatedly said that Russia will test if the United States does.  [snip]

The United States last tested a nuclear weapon in 1992...

In his own tiny, demented mind, the Malignant Fascist believes he's a great negotiator, but in reality he's the guy at the poker table who can't spot the sucker (because it's him).  Having an unsophisticated simpleton like the MF toying with the delicate balance between the nuclear powers, while signaling a move away from the disarmament pillar of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, is madness.  Having advisors who are either advocating this or not discouraging it speaks to the chaotic nature of the MF's regime and to its extremism.  The treaty was ratified by the Senate decades ago;  lets see if the current crop of gnomes and eunuchs in the MAGAt Republican cult will roll over or stand up for some semblance of sanity.

QOTD -- Bovino

"... In the movie One Battle After Another, Sean Penn plays a racist ICE agent (is that redundant?)—a skinhead with a badge, who has risen through the ranks with the hopes of joining a secret cabal whose only goal is to Make America White Again (Stephen Miller's fever dream come to life). He's also a raving lunatic and, ultimately, just a pawn whose usefulness lies in his willingness to carry out orders without question, including murder and mayhem.

"That character bears a striking resemblance to Greg Bovino, the Customs and Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent, El Centro Sector, which includes the California counties of Imperial and parts of San Diego (where Sean Penn's character was also stationed). More recently, Bovino's been a little far afield in Chicago. He clearly believes he's on some kind of mission (which remains undefined) and sees the people who live there as a threat to this mission. So, he and his army are beating people up, shooting pepper bullets at close range, and throwing tear gas at residents gathered outside their homes. That includes children and their parents who were out on the streets preparing for a Halloween parade. And a 70-year old who dared to ask an agent what his purpose is. When Donald Trump dutifully read the speech Miller wrote for him, which says the enemy is the American people, Bovino apparently took that as carte blanche to wage war in his own special way against the good people of Chicago. He is instigating violence, and then lying about how it started, alongside poorly trained but heavily armed men who seemingly answer only to him.

"That said, as is so often the case with this administration, while Bovino is dangerous and unhinged, he's also a moron. He obviously doesn't recognize that he's being used and will be abandoned as soon as his stupidity eclipses his fear tactics, which looks to be soon...." -- Andrew S. Tanenbaum, Electoral-vote.com, on the looming FAFO moment for Bovino and other fascistic functionaries when they find out they're not immune from prosecution by State governments (and most relevant federal statute of limitations doesn't run out until 2030).  Bovino is already being caught up by the short hairs by Judge Sara Ellis in Chicago for his violations of a temporary restraining order.  He should be learning something from the experience but, as Tanenbaum accurately notes, he's a moron.

Trump's Cryptocurrency Windfall

Setting a record for profiting off of Government, the Malignant Fascist and his family have raked in hundreds of millions in their sketchy cryptocurrency hustle, much seemingly from shadowy Middle Eastern entities and China. The MF's elder sons are traveling the world looking to hawk their World Liberty Financial crypto tokens to those looking for a quick profit and to show that they're on the MF's "team". From a detailed report from Reuters:

"Eric Trump was in Dubai on family business. Meeting with a Chinese businessman and his associates on the sidelines of a cryptocurrency conference in May this year, the son of U.S. President Donald J. Trump ran through his usual talking points about the inefficiency of traditional banks and his own famous father’s run-ins with financiers.

Then came the pitch. Buy at least $20 million of “governance tokens” in the Trump family’s crypto business, World Liberty Financial, and become part of a venture that Eric Trump predicted would soon embody the future of finance in America, according to a person familiar with the meeting.

To some in that small gathering, the technology Eric Trump’s team described for World Liberty seemed “rudimentary,” the person said. At the time, World Liberty was a fledgling business. It hadn’t yet created the cryptocurrency-based finance platform it promised after its September 2024 launch. It still hasn’t." (our emphasis)

The message seemed to be clear: buy into our crypto tokens and become a part of the MF's "venture" of pay-to-play. After all, who appoints the Federal regulators of business and the cryptocurrency industry but the MF himself? More:

"Even so, the pitch apparently worked. On June 26, an obscure entity called Aqua1 Foundation, which said it was based in the United Arab Emirates, announced it was buying $100 million of cryptocurrency tokens from World Liberty. It was the single largest known purchase of the so-called WLFI tokens at the time.

The Chinese businessman who met with Eric Trump in Dubai was Guren “Bobby” Zhou, who has executive roles in multiple businesses and who is under investigation in Britain for money laundering, according to that nation’s National Crime Agency and a document filed in an immigration case at London's Royal Courts of Justice."  (our emphasis)

An alleged money launderer associated with the Trump hustle?  We're shocked, shocked! There's much more in the Reuters investigation, including this observation:

" ....the Trump Organization’s income soared 17-fold to $864 million from $51 million a year earlier, according to Reuters calculations based on the president’s official disclosures, property records, financial records released in court cases, crypto trade information and other sources. Of the first-half total, $802 million – more than 90% – came from Trump crypto ventures, including sales of World Liberty tokens." (our emphasis)

Crypto "investors" clearly know they're buying the favor of the vindictive MF in dealings with the Federal government, whether it's regulatory relief, contracts and more. It's the most corrupt use of an elected position one could foresee, if one were in a coma the last 20 years and missed the Trump family's widespread grifting and fraud.
