Voter Supression - - A Rethug Value
Newsweek's Jonathan Alter has a detailed run-down of Rethuglican efforts to dampen the votes of African Americans, similar to the old Jim Crow laws of segregated America. The new tactic is to require drivers licenses when arriving at the polling place. Of course, poorer and working class citizens often don't have cars; they rely on public transportation, or on friends who do have cars. In a close election, this tactic may work in close Congressional races and even the Presidential race. But it tells you a lot about how Rethuglicans view the cherished right to vote, that was guaranteed by generations of soldiers - - including African Americans - - who gave their lives to preserve that right.
