Putting Their Country First

The Daily Kos reports that 47 millionaires have joined together in calling for the expiration of Bushit tax cuts for people making over $1 million per year. Calling themselves "Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength," the group has opened a website and sent a letter to President Obama, stating in part:
"We have done very well over the last several years. Now, during our nation's moment of need, we are eager to do our fair share. We don't need more tax cuts, and we understand that cutting our taxes will increase the deficit and the debt burden carried by other taxpayers. The country needs to meet its financial obligations in a just and responsible way."
Included in the group are Ben Cohen (Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream), and George Zimmer (Men's Wearhouse). Forty-seven is a tiny number of the millionaires in America, but it's a start. Imagine if the 261 Senators and Representative who are millionaires would join the cause "greater than their own self interest" (like eight home and counting former "maverick" Sen. John McNasty).
