Two Winners

Yesterday's Women's World Cup soccer match between Japan and the U.S. was a timeless classic. Scoreless in the first period, then tied through the rest of regular time, both teams played hard to win. An underdog Japanese team was the emotional favorite of many, representing a country that has undergone so much tragedy this past year. In a penalty kick shootout, the Japanese women prevailed: final score 3-2 Japan. They've given much-welcomed joy to their country, and to soccer fans around the world.

The U.S. women can hold their heads up; they played all-in. As one of the U.S. players commented after the game, if the U.S. had to lose, it was best that they lost to this courageous and skilled team from Japan.
