A Major Defection from Assad

The defection of Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Hijab a couple of days ago underlines the belief that Syrian tyrant Bashar al Assad's days are numbered. Along with recent defections of high ranking military personnel and troops, the Syrian regime's functionaries are seeing the handwriting on the wall. Assad's whereabouts are uncertain, but there are rumors that Assad has relocated to the Syrian port city of Tartus, where his forces are presumably being resupplied.

While there will certainly be continued bloodshed as the rebels and civilians take heavy losses in the weeks ahead, both Aleppo and Damascus are the scenes of increasingly bold rebel attacks. As the defections from his army and government increase, sickened by the regime's butchery, Assad may be looking to board one of those ships in Tartus.
