Phil Everly, 1939-2014
The legendary Phil Everly, who with his older brother Don formed one of the most influential acts in the history of rock 'n' roll, died yesterday at the age of 74. The cause of death was complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The Everly Brothers had nearly three dozen hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from the late 1950's until the early 1980's. Their pitch-perfect harmonies are credited with shaping the singing styles of the Beatles, Beach Boys and Byrds, to name a few. Their better known hits included "Cathy's Clown," "Problems," "Bird Dog," "Wake Up Little Susie," "Bye Bye Love," "When Will I Be Loved," and the two songs we're featuring below. The Everly Brothers were among the first 10 artists inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Thank you for all the beautiful and lasting memories. Rest in peace.
