The Republican Sickness, Cont'd.

We've noted the Republican right's desire to turn the Ebola virus into the next Benghazi! Benghazi!! BENGHAZI!! attack on the Obama Administration to further spin up their rabid base in advance of the 2014 mid-terms.  It's despicable, but predictable.  Linking the virus to immigration and "terror" is one way of keeping the mouth-breathing, conspiracy minded wingnuts ready to storm the barricades, while sending in those $5 and $10 campaign contributions.

NPR has a good summary of how wingnuttia is taking a health issue and politicizing it, from right-wing guru Rush Limpballs to Texas Gov. and smart glasses wearer Rick "Oops" Perry, who link the Ebola outbreak in West Africa to the Hispanic immigration that they've been fighting against for years.  While they think that this will redound to their short-term benefit, months and years from now we'll look back and credit our health care system and the Federal Government (largely the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) for stopping it here and in Africa.  New immigrant Latino citizens will also remember how the Rethuglicans linked them to a fatal disease.
