Weekend Song - A Disc Made In Heaven
We think even if you're not a fan of early rock 'n' roll's Doo-wop music, this 1962 song by Brooklyn's own The Five Discs should at least get your attention. If we had to characterize it, we'd call "Never Let You Go" haute Doo-wop: very high-energy R&B with minimal instrumentation, nonsense syllables, and great vocal harmonies led by a soaring tenor (John Carbone). Their vocal style has been compared to another Doo-wop group out of New York City, Dion and the Belmonts. What also made The Five Discs unusual was that they were an integrated group (Italian American and African American), which was quite rare for the late 50's/ early 60's (the Del-Vikings come to mind as another such group). In any event, enjoy the bow-bow-nimma-nimma and your weekend!
