The Price of Liberty….

...seems to be $10, which was the fine that students at "Liberty" University faced if they skipped flaming wingnut Sen. Ted "Tailgunner Ted" Cruz's announcement for the Rethug nomination earlier today.  As Steve Benen points out in the linked article, the name "Liberty" University is an Orwellian twist, given the tight restrictions placed on students, including films and books that are not allowed to be viewed or read, clothing rules which require the co-eds to look like they stepped out of the 1950s, and no alcohol or tobacco consumption -- but concealed firearms, with a permit, are OK.  Maybe their school motto should borrow from Patrick Henry:  "Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Freedom!"  Or give us a break.

UPDATE:  As the Silver Spring Bureau Chief notes in the comments, Tailgunner's grift began immediately.

UPDATE II:  Looks like not all the students forced to attend were buying what Tailgunner Ted was selling. "Imagine" that.

Tailgunner also grifted during the speech by telling everyone to text "Constitution" to his campaign so they can be solicited for money in the future!

Good point, SSBC. It also seems that his brilliant campaign staff failed to lock down "TedCruz.com", which his supporters should be encouraged to check out! Mwahaha!

Ted Cruz: The World is On Fire: Hunger Games Presidential Tour kicked off at Liberty University where attendence was apparently Mandatory.

Just like when Mitt Romney had a photo-op with a group of Ohio Coal Miners owned by Murray Energy.

Multiple miners alleged they were forced to attend. Many being forced to take an unpaid day off.

Murray Energy CFO Rob Moore brushed aside the allegations, "Our managers communicated to our workforce that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory."

They weren't forced! It was just mandatory they go there! Rob Moore did confirm pay was docked for all the workers.

Murray Energy donated more than $1,000,000 to politicians in 2012 — all of them Republicans.
