About That "War On Cops"...

If you've been hearing about a "War on Cops" from the Republican clown car bus and in the media (both "mainstream" and Fox "News"), Radley Balko -- formerly of the Cato Institute no less -- has the facts:
As I’ve noted here before, we’re seeing similar rhetoric from politicians, particularly from GOP presidential hopefuls, including Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Scott Walker.
All of this fact-free fearmongering is having an effect. A Rasmussen poll taken last week found that 58 percent of respondents now believe there is now a “war on police.” Just 27 percent disagreed.
So let’s go through the numbers. Again. So far, 2015 is on pace to see 35 felonious killings of police officers. If that pace holds, this year would end with the second lowest number of murdered cops in decades(our emphasis)
Once again, thanks to some elected Republican police officers, the always godawful Fox "News" and a confrontation-averse "mainstream media" desperate to generate buzz on a 24-hour news cycle, popular perception is being shaped in a manner contrary to reality.  But, hey, who cares, right?  As long as the Obama administration is smeared and the ads are sold and the stenographers and news readers are paid!

Larry Wilmore also takes on the issue of the phony "War on Cops" and it's corollary smearing of the "Black Lives Matter" movement (h/t Crooks and Liars):
