Mid-Week Polonaise Song

May is the birth month of classical Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, a favorite of this blog. His lyric opera, Eugene Onegin, based on the verse novel by Alexander Pushkin, was first performed in Moscow in 1879. Act 3 opens at a grand ball, featuring a "polonaise," a grand processional dance popular in the day. Tchaikovsky's Polonaise from Eugene Onegin is one of the most recognizable of its genre for its majestic theme. Here is a performance of the Polonaise scene, performed in it all of its pageantry by Moscow's legendary Bolshoi Theatre and orchestra (best viewed full-screen).
