Former Presidential candidate and prominent #NeverTrump figure Willard "Mittens" Romney's annual Rethuglican donor and insider retreat in Utah last week has been well covered, especially about the grilling that House Speaker Paul "Lyin'" Ryan got from the donor-heavy group over his mealy-mouthed "support but not endorse" position on neo-fascist deadbeat Donald "Rump" Trump. Among other major donors in attendance, he was dressed down by Hewlitt-Packard CEO and former Rethug Senate candidate Meg Whitman for that support. Whitman also suggested that she could support Hillary Clinton, but was waiting to see who Rump's VP candidate would be (as if that choice is going to alter Rump's vile nature).
That said, one passage in the linked article caught our eye that could portend problems for Rump and the Rethugs going forward:
According to (Republican donors) Jim and Joanne, a couple from Southern California who declined to provide their last names, Whitman isn't the only donor here considering Clinton. The summit attendees took an informal poll at lunch, with the room splitting evenly among Trump and Clinton supporters, they said. (emphasis added)We're extremely skeptical as to whether they'll actually donate to Clinton's campaign after pressure is applied by the likes of amoral weasel - human hybrid Reince "Prepuce" Priebus, the RNC chairstain, and other "party-before-country" Rethug hacks. They'll certainly donate to down-ballot Rethuglicans, as well as PACs pushing their economic and social agendas, without necessarily funding Rump's campaign. But it's interesting that a room of reliable, well-heeled Republican donors is split at this late stage between their Party's presumptive nominee and the hated Hillary.
