Rethuglican nominee and neo-fascist sociopath Donald "Rump" Trump is reading a speech that someone else wrote for him today before the Detroit Economic Club. It's expected to rehash the same failed Rethug economic policies -- from trickle-down tax policy, to budget cuts on programs for the middle class and poor -- that the party's been pushing for at least 50 years. The stale stew reportedly includes cutting corporate taxes to 15 percent, gutting environmental regulations, and eliminating all but three tax brackets, ensuring wealth will flow to the top incomes, i.e. the Rethuglican "establishment" donor class. So much for Rump's right-wing populism. We'll see how much applause he gets from the corporate free trade audience when he talks about erecting trade barriers.
The main story, according to our broken political press, will undoubtedly be Rump's new "seriousness" and his long-awaited "pivot" to the general election. Every time he uses a teleprompter to stay on message and deliver a canned speech, the press tries to "normalize" him and his campaign so that they can fabricate a horse race election around soundbites and Hillaryhate. The Rethugs and their enablers in the press are desperate to show Rump as "Presidential," and today's recital won't change that.
