Weekend Redding Music

Had he lived, R&B and soul great Otis Redding would have been 75 today.  As it was, Redding and six others, including four members of his backup group, The Bar-Kays, were killed when Redding's plane crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, Wisconsin, at 3:30 p.m. on December 10, 1967.  They had a gig that night at The Factory, a student nightclub in Madison. (On a personal note, the Hackwhackers were attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison at the time, and a Hackwhacker wife- to- be was in line to get into the club when word came that Redding's plane had gone down.)  Redding's only number one hit, "(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay," was released posthumously in January 1968, the first posthumous number one. This song from 1962, "These Arms of Mine," was Redding's first single from Stax, and it's a beauty. Hope you enjoy.
