About Those "Drop Out" Calls for Trump (UPDATED)

Since the obscene tapes were released yesterday, there has been a smattering of calls from Rethugs and their courtiers in the punditocracy for neo-fascist sexual predator Donald "Rump" Trump to "drop out" of the race, despite the fact that he's irrevocably on the ballot in all 50 states, early voting has begun, and he has his slate of Electoral College electors legally pledged to vote for him. So what fanciful scenario is behind the thinking of some Rethugs calling for Rump to drop out? Well, their "thinking" goes, if Rump steps aside, the RNC will re-nominate Gov. Mike "Dense" Pense for President (even though Rump remains on the ballot in early voting). Next, they think, Dense can eke out the narrowest of wins (longest of long shots) to become the ersatz President-elect. However, here's where it breaks down for them. Given his pathological narcissism and refusal to accept any rebuke, Rump could reemerge right after the election, rescind his withdrawal, and claim his legal right to be the President-elect, threatening to sue if he's blocked by the party, etc. rallying his deplorable base. After all, he's already credited himself with Dense's perceived "win" in the VP debate, so why not the general election?

Of course, it's a moot scenario: Rump is promising to remain in the race, and the Rethuglican / New Confederate / Stupid / Shooters Party needs to own him and his supporters, and suffer the consequences of their actions and legacy. Together with a fact-free right wing media establishment, they made this monster over years of dog-whistle bigotry, lies, and fear tactics. Enjoy the carnival ride you built, suckers.
