Rock 'n' Roll Pioneer Mid-Week Song
There are few, if any, musical acts that can claim to have influenced rock, rhythm and blues, and pop music as much as Little Richard, who celebrated his 84th birthday on Monday. He was in the inaugural 1986 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and was dubbed the "architect of rock and roll" by the Hall in their induction ceremony. The many, many artists that he influenced are legends in their own right; to name a very few, James Brown, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Bob Seger, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison, who said that without Little Richard, there wouldn't have been the Beatles. Little Richard's body of music was covered by countless other artists, including one song we're featuring today, 1956's "Long Tall Sally."
