Weekend Song Twofer

To close out 2016, we're featuring two songs by acclaimed alt- Southern- rock band Drive-By Truckers, from Athens, GA. The band has distinguished itself in its nearly 20- year history by creating songs of unusual power, social conscience and scope, dealing with such topics such as gun violence and racial injustice.  "Surrender Under Protest," and "Ramon Casiano," both released this past year in the album "American Band," are two powerful anthems dealing with those themes. The latter song is about a 15- year- old Hispanic boy killed by an NRA leader in 1931 who escaped incarceration. (h/t Silver Spring Bureau Chief Brian)
