From the Twitter account "St. Louis Manifest" ("On Holocaust Remembrance Day #WeRemember the victims of Naziism turned away at the doorstep of America in 1939. #RefugeesWelcome.") one of many poignant messages from the Jewish dead:
My name is Erich Dublon. The US turned me away at the border in 1939. I was murdered at Auschwitz pic.twitter.com/wlVcCiUt2P— St. Louis Manifest (@Stl_Manifest) January 27, 2017
What does the "St. Louis Manifest" signify?
The MS St. Louis was a German ocean liner most notable for a single voyage in 1939, in which its captain, Gustav Schröder, tried to find homes for 908 Jewish refugees from Germany. After they were denied entry to Cuba, the United States, and Canada, the refugees were finally accepted in various European countries, and historians have estimated that approximately a quarter of them died in death camps during World War II.America has been here before and is on the verge again.
UPDATE: Don't for a minute think that "reasonable" Cabinet members will be a barrier to Trump/ Bannon's worst instincts:
Six months ago Mattis said talk of a Muslim ban was causing us great damage. Today he watched Trump sign such a ban. https://t.co/2NArmvb0Ma pic.twitter.com/H9OJn7Kcfy— Loren DeJ. Schulman (@LorenRaeDeJ) January 28, 2017
