Trump's Risible Excuse For Firing Comey
With the FBI investigation into his campaign's collusion with Russia proceeding steadily, along with separate grand jury action against his disgraced former National Security Advisor Michael "Lock Him Up" Flynn, neo-fascist con man Donald "Rump" Trump is feeling increasingly cornered. FBI Director James Comey began looking less like an ally to Rump than he did during the 2016 campaign, when Rump lavished praise on his for his damaging comments about Secretary Clinton. So, a desperate Rump pulled the plug on Comey if only to disorient the FBI temporarily and put his own man in charge of the agency and the investigation.
But how to explain the firing? There are reports that in the days preceding the firing, Rump asked his Confederate States Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III and Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein to come up with a rationale for firing Comey, as long as it didn't involve the Rump-Russia investigation. What they came up with was ludicrous on its face, namely Comey's highly questionable handling of the Clinton e-mail matter, again something that benefitted Rump and that he praised during the campaign and beyond. No one is buying that ridiculous explanation, conservatives included, particularly since we're many months past Comey's controversial actions toward Clinton, so why the delay?
As with the Watergate scandal that brought Richard Nixon down, it's the cover up that ends up being the fatal move. Rump may have just made the first. Stay tuned.
BONUS: Here's Rump's letter to Comey. Note the first phrase in the second paragraph. If that's not a "tell," we don't know what is (click on image to enlarge):
