Weekend Groovie Twofer

The Flamin' Groovies have been described by the All Music Guide as "one of America's greatest, most influential, and legendary cult bands." The San Francisco- originating band has gone through several lineup changes since forming in the late '60's. In many ways, their lack of commercial success was attributable to their changing styles, and to the fact that they were often out of sync with the popular music of the time, especially when their acclaimed "Shake Some Action" album was released at the height of disco music in 1976. The two songs we're featuring are from that influential album. First, the title cut, "Shake Some Action" (something that's happened in our body politic in the past week or so, right?), which is a glorious, chiming guitars, hook-laden rocker. "You Tore Me Down" is a lovely breakup song with chiming guitars and a retro British invasion quality to it. Both songs were written by the band's Cyril Jordan and Chris Wilson. So get out your air guitars and turn up the volume!

You Tore Me Down's harmonies really sounds like the Beatles to me

To me too. There are a couple of other retro Beatlesque tunes on the album, too, most notably "Yes It's True."
