Tensions In Persian Gulf Escalate (UPDATED)
The recent rupture in relations between Qatar and several Arab nations, led by Saudi Arabia and Egypt, has prompted its ally Turkey (also a NATO ally run by an authoritarian) to send troops and supplies to the beseiged Persian Gulf nation. Qatar also hosts the largest U.S. military base in the region. The Saudis and their allies have closed the land border to Qatar, and have begun to squeeze shipping and air travel.
Qatar has been accused by its adversaries of fomenting instability among its Arab neighbors. Bumbling sociopath Donald "Rump" Trump made matters worse when he tweeted that Qatar was suspected by those adversaries as sponsoring terrorism, likely not knowing of our military base there. His siding with the Saudi-aligned group was opposed by his State Department and Defense Department which wanted to stay neutral in the conflict. The irony is that Saudi Arabia with its reactionary monarchy has tolerated the extreme Wahhabi sect that has produced the most virulent anti-Western terrorists, including 15 of the 19 terrorists of 9-11.
With the recent ISIS attack in Tehran which Iran viewed to be instigated by the Saudis, the Persian Gulf has quickly become a hot spot, one that the incompetent and feckless Rump has no capacity to understand or help resolve.
UPDATE: The bumbler- in- chief just stepped onto Rex "Rexxon" Tillerson's and the State Department's attempts to cool the situation down.
