Massing on the historic quadrangle of the University of Virginia last night were thousands of students and local residents holding candles and singing "We Shall Overcome," and "This Land Is Your Land." The gathering followed an emotional day for the city of Charlottesville, following the memorial service for Heather Heyer, who was killed by a crazed white supremacist on Saturday following the "Unite The Right" riot.
The peaceful crowd and candles stood in stark contrast to the torches and racist and anti-Semitic chants by white supremacists last Friday as they marched through campus.
