Tom Petty, 1950 - 2017

When the terrible news of Tom Petty's death from cardiac arrest on Monday evening was finally confirmed, it marked the passing of an icon in American music. Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee Petty had sold 80 million records with his band The Heartbreakers, and was the recipient of numerous industry awards. He went on to join the George Harrison super group The Traveling Wilburys, along with Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. His many hits -- "Refugee," "Don't Do Me Like That," "The Waiting," "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Learning to Fly," "Into The Great Wide Open," "American Girl," "I Won't Back Down" and so many more -- are absolute classics in American rock music, and will stand the test of time. Upon learning about Petty's death, Dylan released a statement saying,
“It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”
Millions of fans (including us) and fellow artists around the world are grieving his unexpected passing, and are remembering some of the great songs he made part of our lives.
