Weekend Song - R.I.P. Fats

The death of singer, pianist and songwriter Antoine "Fats" Domino on Tuesday at the age of 89 marked the passing of another rock 'n' roll "Founding Father." His performing career spanned from the pre- rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues era of the late 1940's all the way into the 1990's, and included such classic hits as "Blueberry Hill," "Ain't That A Shame," "Blue Monday," "I'm Walkin'," "Walking to New Orleans," and "I Want To Walk You Home." All told, Domino sold more than 65 million records, more than any 1950's performer other than Elvis Presley. The talented but self- effacing Domino influenced such musicians as diverse as Presley, The Beatles, The Animals, Neil Young and Elton John. Here's his "I'm In Love Again," from 1956.

He influenced McCartney, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elton John - now that's quite a spectrum! Thanks, Diva.
