Sunday Reflection
"Our best successes often come after our greatest disappointments." Henry Ward Beecher, American abolitionist, 1813-1887. Let that continue to be true throughout the coming, critical year.
Like most Democrats, my outrage meter splintered sometime last year, and now my fury rises and ebbs fairly regularly. I've rolled my eyes so hard, so often that they're permanently sprained. It feels relentless, this onslaught by the Right, and it's never limited to just one aspect of our lives or of our government. The Trump party is brutally ineffective at governing, but they do excel at being racist, misogynist, nationalistic, etc.
I agree that we need to take a collective breath and calm ourselves when we can. When it seems it may never end, it's best if we can keep a level head. That's why I was so pleased to see the huge turnout over the weekend for the Women's marches. We still have a voice, we can still make a stand, and we can still make a difference. And while it's a physical act of defiance, there is the important component in this activity, the signing up of voters and potential candidates.
So I will continue to move forward, reminding myself that there may well be a reward after the suffering. We need to have hope and more than that, we have to work for it.
We missed the march this year because of family obligations, but will keep up the donations to democrats in critical races. Suggest everyone do the same. P.E.C.

Mr. Beecher, "From your lips to god's ears". "Let It Be"!
ReplyDeletedonnah - that's exactly what we need to do and how we need to go about it. The recoil from this awful era is coming, and it will be rewarding. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteFM - amen.
