"Mr. Conservative" (For Now)

On display at CPAC was the utter hypocrisy, dishonesty and tribalism of "conservative" Trumpists, whose mantra during their Tea Party incarnation was "deficits deficits." who deplored Obama's Executive Orders as "unconstitutional," who cloaked themselves in political evangelicalism, who honored the service of veterans like John McCain, who were historically hostile to Moscow, who demanded "free trade," who went after any and all Dems for their moral failings, etc. etc. See you in a few years (or less) when you turn on Cadet Bone Spurs.

Trump is as Conservative as they want him to be. He has no compass and lacks the brains and courage to be a real party leader. I'm sure that the NRA master Lapierre is looking askance at Trump for his comments about reviewing background checks, bumpstocks, and automatic weapons. Trump is whatever they tell him to be.

donnah -- As a con man, Trump learned early on how to juice an audience to get them to buy something. But he still takes his cues from those that provide him money, whether it's the NRA or Moscow.

Exactly! But here's the thing: you can keep the rubes going for a while, but when you have a shady past and no sense of morality, the public starts to see the carnival barker's mask slipping. That's why I'm hoping that Mueller's investigation helps pull the mask off all the way. Then people will actually see the disgusting bald spot Trump tries to keep hidden.
