Led by students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, the scene of a mass shooting last week, students using social media are planning a massive "March For Our Lives" on Washington on March 24 to demand action on gun safety. Others are organizing local protests and school walk-outs to highlight the need for tighter gun safety laws, including closing background check loopholes where the deranged and criminal can buy weapons, banning bump stocks, and potentially re-imposing the ban on assault weapons.
Many of the survivors of the attack have focused on Rethuglican politicians who have accepted millions of dollars from the National
"Students from the Florida school have lashed out at political leaders, including Republican President Donald Trump, for inaction on the issue. Many criticized Trump for insensitivity after he said in a weekend Twitter post that the FBI may have been too distracted with a Russia probe to follow leads that could have prevented the massacre.
'You can’t blame the bureaucracy for this when it’s you, Mr. President, who’s overall responsible,' David Hogg, an 18-year-old Douglas senior, said in a phone interview."In an attempt to deflect from their inaction and complicity, the White (Supremacist) House said that Rump would be holding a "listening session" with an unspecified, hand-picked group of students and teachers on Wednesday. You can be assured that they will focus on mental illness issues, rather than the weapons that are able to be bought by the mentally ill. You can also be assured that the NRA will put maximum pressure on their paid-for Rethuglican legislators and Rump to do exactly nothing.
