Today, Russia's man in Washington Donald "Rump" Trump more or less has his answer from the Rethuglican / Trumpist Party: "We're loyal to you, Great Leader." Make them pay dearly in 2018 and beyond. Resist and vote.

I'm turning sixty next month and I just barely remember Watergate. My paternal grandmother was a staunch Republican and while she would never relinquish her loyalty, she was disgusted by Nixon and the whole mess.
The nation survived, the Constitution wasn't torched, and eventually the political brouhaha died down. Knowing that something of that magnitude is survivable is all I'm hanging onto right now. Because this Republican party and the president are a hundred times worse. Nixon and his team wanted to cover up some stupid actions and committed actual crimes. They lied. But some went to prison, and Nixon was impeached, resigning in disgrace.
But now, with Republicans in power all around, no matter what Trump does, he's safe. Congress wouldn't impeach him and he would never resign. He's bragging about being vindicated by the memo, and his poll numbers shot up over the past week. Ryan is using the Memo as a cover for getting his orgasmic dream of killing Medicare and Medicaid, with some other social safety nets as well.
We don't have a guarantee that we survive this presidency. We can't say that the good guys will pull off a wave in November. Koch brothers are pouring millions into Republican coffers and we still have miles to go.
Please, someone, reassure me!
