The news today that the National
Rifle Rampage Association has hired lawbreaking Reagan-era wingnut
Oliver North as their new president makes sense. North, a convicted felon who escaped prison on a technicality, was the central figure in
the Iran-Contra scandal, where weapons (mainly missiles) were sold to hostile Iran in exchange for cash to smuggle to right-wing Nicaraguan rebels fighting a leftist government. (Of course the irony is that tomorrow sociopath and ignoramus
Donald "Rump" Trump is expected to withdraw from the agreement with Iran on its nuclear program.) That some of the weapons sold to Iran were given to Hezbollah in their fight against Israel is more than likely.
The NRA
is under investigation by the FBI for its role in laundering Russian money to the 2016 Rump campaign, so North's experience in secretive deals with hostile foreign powers should fit right in there.
